Daphne-cat’s Dance

Update: I need to share two responses to my creativity challenge.  Both fellow authors did journal entries for their characters.  Robbie Cheadle used a character from a novel in progress.  Dan Antion worked a bit about the journal of one of his bartender characters into his post today.

Hello, everyone.  I realize that few people will have time for reading blogs this weekend.  So, I’m just offering up some silliness — with help of one of the Scoobies.  Also since we were talking about a soundtrack for the serial last weekend, I got a song in my head for this post, based on that cat’s antics.

Recently I got a new rug… but the size just didn’t work for the intended purpose or place.  Now that we’re beginning to have some autumn weather, the tile floor is starting to get cold. I decided to just put the rug in the kitchen.

Velma had zero interest in my efforts to lug the rug from one room to the next. That was unexpected, although she’s learned what a klutz I am and probably thought discretion was the better part of valor.  Daphne, however, was underfoot every step.  Then, she went nuts for the rug. That’s when I started thinking of the song, although Daphne seemed to alter the lyrics.

You’ve got to sniff at every stitch You’ve got to sniff at every stitch Meow, must be the season of the rugMust be the season of the rugWhen I look over my shoulder (Do you carpet swim?)What do you think I see? (Human answers every whim?)Some other cat looking over (Meow, meow)Over her shoulder at me (Ah, wait, that’s me!)
And she’s strange
Sure is strange
Must be the season of the rug, yeah
Must be the season of the rug…

      1. No moping allowed! If it’s not happening, it’s WP! I just go to blogs anyway sometimes. I know I don’t get all notifications.
Sometimes I get t o a blog and I’ve missed a lot of posts. YIKES! I do my best to catch up.
Nonetheless, I think bloggers are onto WP.
        BIG HUGS!

  1. I remember my cats enjoying running onto our small rugs and making them slide. It was annoying that the rugs were never in the right place, but we couldn’t help laughing. I’m sure Velma and Daphne are having a great time. Thanks for the fun, Teagan.

    1. Haha. She still loves the rug, Rebecca. I apologize for such a late reply. I only just realized that WordPress stopped notifying me of comments. I blog for the comment-interaction, and thought nobody was there. A lovely surprise just now to find I was wrong. Hugs on the wing.

    1. I thank you and Daphne thanks you, Samantha. 🙂 She sits on the rug looking like she’s proud of it.
It was a great bargain find at Amazon. It’s thicker than I expected, but soft to the touch. Thanks for visiting. I hope you didn’t work too hard during the holiday. Hugs.

  2. Daphne is a darling lyricist and rug roller. So funny how one cat will ignore something while the other will go nuts over it. Daphne looks happy on the rug. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard Season of the Witch.

        1. So true! Actually, I did get that rug with the intention of putting it under the table, so there wouldn’t be such a hard landing when they jump. But like most of my plans, that just didn’t work out. Although… now that I think about it for the 50th time, I might still be able to make that work. Daphne wouldn’t have room for any more rug dancing on it though. LOL.

            1. Sorry for the late reply… I had already ordered a smaller one for that purpose when I did this post. It’s working out well. I put their “food mat” where the plates and bowls are, overlapping the small braided rug. It’s easy enough to slide everything out so I can reach it, and then slide it back. The new smaller rug is wide enough to catch most of the mess they create, making that cleanup chore easier too.

    1. Thanks, Robbie. Daphne looked like she was doing a ballet, gracefully stretching and pulling herself in a circle. Then the song got in my head. Not sure how those two things went together in my head. LOL.
I updated this post to include a link to your post for the creativity challenge.
      Hugs.

  3. I love how one cat can’t be bothered and the other has to slay the imaginary dragon hiding in the fibers. MiMi and MuMu were like that. MiMi was always exploring. MuMu would just look at her like, “what’s wrong with that girl.” Thanks for sharing this fun post. I haven’t hear that Donovan song in ages. AM radio days!

I hope you have a great weekend, Teagan. Give those girls a scritch from MiMi.

    1. Dan, I don’t know what could be woven into that braiding… but she couldn’t sniff it enough. (I’d say catnip except that Daphne cringes at that or any strong odor. The first non-catnip cat I’ve ever met.)
      Love to MiMi.
I updated this post to include a link to your creativity challenge response in your post today. I hope everyone there had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hugs.

  4. Cold floors – you hit on my seasonal problem. I have a braided rug in my office made out of some industrial strength fiber of some sort which Garfield loves picking. It’s always rucked up in the morning since he does his ‘gapping’ at night.

    1. Haha. I expected to hear additional crashes during the night from this one sliding around. (These two move my living room furniture around sliding into things.) But so far she only sits on it like a queen, or does her ballet. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Noelle. Love to Garfield. Hugs.

  5. Our departed cat Cujo loved to do the Season of the Rug dance. To get him going all you had to do was twitch the rug a little and he would jump on and have some fun. I enjoyed this, Teagan. Brough back memories of that big ole boy.

  6. Cats can be finicky, but they know what they like.
I made your mushrooms for Thanksgiving and they were a hit!! Thank you. (but don’t tell Dan, he wanted to have some 😬.)
