Yet another note: Yes, I do know my days of the week. However, WordPress still won’t let me schedule posts properly. I was provided a work around, but it only lets me set the day — unfortunately at some apparently random time of day. So the heck with it. Here it is now. On Tuesday. Not Wednesday. Sigh… Thank goodness that it’s also 5 O’clock somewhere, though that has nothing to do with the time I meant to schedule.

Hello, everyone. Welcome, November! The proverbial gloves have been off for a while now with all the election stuff. Although, I suppose that many of you are getting your gloves out of their warm weather hiding places, with cooler temperatures.
Today, I’m putting the gloves on, but with elegance. You see, this time of year made me think of the novelette I finished about a year ago, The Dance of Discord. The setting is Washington, D.C., but during the Gilded Age. Gloves were important fashion articles then.

Curious about how much emphasis I might have placed on gloves when I wrote the novelette, I opened it up on my Kindle Cloud Library and found that I used the word “glove” seven times. I won’t try to match images to those scenes.

Frankly the images are hard to find, and Night Cafe was not cooperating with me for gloves, or for gowns from the early 1900s. However, I’m sharing a few that I was able to get from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, for your fashion enjoyment.

My favorite painter of fashions was Tissot. He was several years earlier than the era of The Dance of Discord. However, just because I love his work…

I also used part of a public domain image of one of Tissot’s paintings when I made the image collage for the cover of the novelette. Although her black gloves disappear into her gown in the image.

Thanks for sharing this moment of elegance with me. Wishing you an easy coast down the other side of this midweek hump. Friendly comments are welcome. Hugs!

Of course, here’s the obligatory shameless self-promotion.
The Dance of Discord is a lighthearted tale of spies and intrigue. In Washington, D.C. of the early 900s, Secret Service agent Milo Quick and Duchess Felina Gattone must navigate an intricate and dangerous dance of diplomatic maneuvering.

Now that I think about it, long gloves could serve the more mature woman by covering up a whole lot of age spots on her hands and arms. I should look into that!

Hi, Liz. It surprised me that gloves didn’t make a comeback during COVID. I guess that level of dressing is probably gone forever. Hugs.
