#ThursdayDoors on a Friday: Windmills

First let me apologize for a week’s worth of unanswered comments. Horsefeathers! Comments are the whole reason why I blog in the first place.  The latest “improvements” to WordPress apparently prevent me being notified of your comments — so I didn’t think anybody was commenting. I was very discouraged…  And then, when I started this post, there you were! ♥ ♥ ♥

Round, like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel

Never ending or beginning on an ever spinning reel…

You aren’t mistaken — this is not Thursday and I’m a day late.  When I realized that I must have been wandering the windmills of my mind, my thoughts circled to Jonathan Creek.  That’s a TV show.  I’ve watched the first several episodes on BritBox and enjoy it.  The title character lives in a windmill.  Then my spiraling thoughts landed on doing a Thursday Doors post of windmills.

Like a snowball down a mountain, or a carnival balloon

Like a carousel that’s turning running rings around the moon…

Of course windmills have doors!  (The old-fashioned kind at least.) Location information on these photos wasn’t readily available, but it’s fun to imagine where they might be.

Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of its face

And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space…

I love seeing unexpected functional buildings renovated into homes.  Until I saw the whimsical-home idea on that TV show, I had not thought of living inside a windmill.  Although, I imagine it could be too noisy.

Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind!

Like a tunnel that you follow to a tunnel of its own…

Fashion from the 1960s is something I’ve always adored.  What I wouldn’t give to be able to wear a gown like Dusty Springfield has in this video.  (Snippets of lyrics above are from The Windmills of Your Mind by Noel Harrison.)

Thanks for opening this door.  Hugs.

  1. I love windmills, but can’t remember actually seeing one in person. WP has been giving me all kinds of headaches lately. Made me start following my own blog before I could even reply to comments one day. Crazy.

    1. Yeah, WP did that to me too. You’d almost think they want all the bloggers to leave. Maybe they’re about to buy out a competitor… after we’ve paid more to go there. (eye roll)
Haha, the only windmill I’ve seen in person was at a put-put golf course. 😀 Thanks for visiting. Hugs.

    1. I see that it was on the air for around nine years, until 2016. I’m only in season 1, but I’m enjoying it a lot. Given that long run, I imagine that it’s available at places other than BritBox. Jonathan is the technical genius (behind a famous magician). He gets pulled into crimes with a reporter friend (although I gather she isn’t in all the seasons), mostly “locked door” type mysteries. The episodes play out like cozy mysteries. Thanks for opening this door, Liz. Hugs.

  2. WordPress seems to be doing all kind of funny things with and to comments, Teagan, so I’m not surprised you’re having trouble as well. Thank you for sharing these windmills. They are gorgeous, and they make one’s mind fly… Take care, give my love to Velma and Daphne, and big hugs for you.

  3. Being as we don’t have any, nor have I ever seen one – I love seeing the pictures.
(And how could you ever think none of your readers were commenting? Bah-humbug!)

    1. LOL. Thanks for making me smile, GP. All I’ve ever seen in person are the modern metal things, and I haven’t even seen them up close. It’s so windy here, I’ve never understood why (this state at least) doesn’t harness that power. Money and politics… Happy December my friend. Hugs.

  4. I love Dusty’s music, and remember this song well. Thank you, Teagan.

Yes, WP has been having problems of all kinds, but I can’t complain to much as I am using the free version. I go through the Reader to comment, and have had very few problems using that method, so far. Over the years I have had far too many problems with individual sites and what themes or plugins they use.

  5. Dusty has a fan base in this house, Teagan. Thanks for including that video. I love windmills (the old fashioned kind) and don’t worry about losing track of a few days. Wednesday and Thursday were a blur for me (Covid vaccine side-effects) so I’m just catching up now, too.

WordPress comments are a disaster right now. I hope you have a good weekend.

  6. I love windmills. A friend of mine in Holland converted an old windmill (a molen) into a house. It was no longer a working windmill so it was not noisy, just very charming. That is a fabulous dress Dusty is wearing.
