Welcome to my sanctuary, everyone. This is a safe place where you are safe from hobgoblins and any leftover curses from Friday the 13th. (Although, personally I chose to see 13 as a lucky number.) Today I have more responses to the Halloween creativity challenge I last weekend.
The above CGI picture by Chris Graham uses “Halloween things” from all across the table I made. He meant it to be my “Scoobies” (Daphne and Velma) wearing ghost costumes in a haunted house. It lit up my day. Thanks Chris. Our Story Reading Ape has also been making Halloween-Ape images for his blog. Don’t miss it.
John W. Howell partnered with Twiggy for his response. He made terrific use of the “things” for the letter J: Werewolf, Door-to-door Salesman, Chucky. It’s sure to give you lots of smiles. Click here for his post.
D.L. (Denise) Finn wrote a magical but chilling Halloween suspense short story, prompted by the “things” for the letter D: Horror Movies, Postman, Ninja. She also made an image for it. Read “A Halloween Walk Through the Woods.”
Update: Just in, a marvelous horror poem with a modern AI twist, from the inimitable Pat at e-Quips blog. Click here and be entertained.
My own response to the prompt “Bad Moon, Archaeologist, Pirate” has drifted away from the image I made. Although a prompt is just that — something to start the creativity. I’m still working on my short story.
By the way, don’t miss Teri Polen‘s Bad Moon Rising horror book festival. She features a different author interview and book each day of October. I’ll be there on the 19th with my latest novella, A Peril in the Bayou. You know indie authors have to overcome the modesty ingrained throughout a lifetime and engage in shameless self-promotion. So, I have to crow about the wonderful review D. Wallace Peach just posted for the story. Here’s her review on Amazon.com. Click this link for the full review: “A great swampy setting!“

It’s not too late to play. I’ve included everything below from my weekend post, in case you missed it, or if you wanted to take another look at how to participate. Start by using the easy chart I made for you.
Creativity Challenge: If you want to draw or take a photo, or decorate something, just take any three things from the table below.
Writing challenge: Write as short or long as you want. It could be a story, song, poem, satiric product review, advertisement – anything you like.
Using the chart below, take the first letter of your name (first name or last name), and use the hero and costume (the hero does not have to wear the costume) in the same row. Or be a rebel and pick any of the three you choose. However, you must use a Halloween thing, a hero from the table, and one of the costumes – in any order you choose.
If character names are a holdup, here are some Halloween-ish possibilities: Ichabod, Hepzibah, Zelda, Samantha, Tabatha, Endora, Freddy, Hannibal, Moriarty, Jack, Grendel, Carrie, Barnibas, Mephistopheles, Nick, Jack.
Don’t miss my Halloween novella,
A Peril in the Bayou.

I found I needed to use both my first and last initial to create this horrendous “poem” – but you wanted it, Teagan. Wah-hah-ha
I wore my Batman costume; on Halloween, the night of gloom,
I passed a Haunted House; with only one light in an attic room,
It was a Jack-O-Lantern glowing in the night;
Myth has it a Plumber owned the place, and died many years ago of fright.
Job of the spirit, I can not make a case; for no plumber’s crack could be seen
When it bent over to set the lantern down to moon me.
If anyone would like to edit this – Go for it!

Ha! GP, you made my day. I laughed so loud that the snoozing kitties looked at me like I’d lost (whatever’s left of) my mind. This is fabulous. Big hugs.

I’ve read John and Twiggy’s write. Hilarious!
I’ll try to make it over to more responses.
However, I have a sick kitty on my hands.
He’s headed for the rainbow bridge on Wednesday.
I’m low energy and just want to hang on the bed with him.
Hugs!

It should be… My back still isn’t over the “dumpster debacle” from nearly two weeks ago. Of course I made it worse, just when it was getting better, by chopping a few weeds. But like retrieving the runaway dumpster, it had to be done. Else I wouldn’t have been able to open the back gate — to get to the trash dumpster… Vicious weed/trash cycle. Which has me thinking of Little Shop of Horrors! LOL.

Daphne and Velma would undoubtedly be extremely upset with me if I tried to put costumes on them, so I was tickled pink when Chris sent the image, which was mostly intended to cheer me up. I took the liberty of using it as a response to the challenge. Thanks for following along. Happy creating. Hugs.
