Hi, everyone. As you know, I’ve been kinda-sorta taking a blog break. I wanted to finish at least a couple of writing and/or editing projects. Then, as usual… I got sidetracked by new inspiration, and suddenly wanted to write a story in time for Halloween. Then the story became a novella… Anyhow, I just finished. It is at a low introductory price through this weekend.
This story follows A Peril in Ectoplasm, which published last October. I’m calling the series “A Medium’s Peril.” So, this second adventure takes the same 1920s characters from Coral Gables, Florida to New Orleans and a haunted bayou.
I’ve stopped doing book launches, but I will be at Teri Polen‘s Bad Moon Rising horror festival on October 19th.
Here’s a snippet from the start of the book:
Rain pinged against the tin roof of a bungalow on the outskirts of New Orleans. Neither the rain nor the night brought down the temperature leftover from a hot, humid day. Inside, a rotary fan chugged and grunted a counterpoint to the night-song of frogs and crickets, and the bass moan of something unknown in the distance.
The fan created the breeze that Nature refused to relinquish. The sleeping woman tossed fitfully. Slumber held no relief from the heat. Dreams provided no respite from the sense of unease that had followed her throughout the day.
Log Line
1920s psychic medium, Daphne Moultrie and protégé Clover Flanagan go to New Orleans to meet a spiritualist leader and the spirits of a haunted bayou. A rival sabotages that journey but the swamp spirits are vastly more dangerous.

Thanks for visiting. I’m still getting myself in the mindset to continue the next Atonement blog serial, and thinking about the story. …And trying to control my frustrations with WordPress and life in general. I’m sorry I haven’t been visiting your blogs. Big hugs.

Teagan – how did I miss this post? Yikes! I had it in my mind that it was later in the month, and I am so far behind reading blog entries – ugh – no excuse, a pox upon me. I am looking forward to reading this (I loved “A Peril in Ectoplasm”) and my copy is beginning its journey to me as we speak.

No worries, Dan. You’ve already been very supportive of this book.
By the way, I was suddenly inspired to create a Halloween game/writing challenge. It will be a fun exercise. I’m posting in a few minutes — providing WordPress behaves at least moderately well. Hugs.

Thanks for this lovely comment, Diana. I’m thrilled that you enjoyed the first book. Haha, I couldn’t make another Crespo. Although I think the swamp is actually the main character. I hope you have a creepy-good time with it. Hugs.

Thanks for your support, Jennie. I hope you had a wonderful Teacher’s Day. Hugs.

You are welcome, Teagan. The only Teacher Day bonus was Dunkin’ giving free coffee to teachers, which was wonderful.

It’s a shame that there aren’t more bonuses. Horsefeathers, a lot of things about how teachers are regarded are a crying shame. Bonus hugs to you Jennie.

Teagan, I think it’s fab that you wrote a book in your break.
We all need time for our creativity to to become realized.
Hugs!

That is so true, Resa. It feels good to create. It feels even better when I can bring that creation to its finish in a short amount of time. I think I needed to do this short book more than I realized. Hugs winging back to you.

Mediums in New Orleans – you can’t get much more tempting. Unless you include a cat, maybe, lol. Off to get my copy, Teagan!

Thanks Teri. You’re so kind.
Eerrrm… no cat in this one. 🐱 Too much swamp water. LOL. Although there is a tidbit at the very end that should cause a giggle. Big hugs.

Lots more dangerous things in the swamp than ghosts. In the Quarter? Sure. In the swamp the mosquitos are deadlier than the spooks🤣

Haha. I knew that kind of mosquito in Georgia and Tennessee too. Although in this story, the spirits are much, much scarier than even those mosquitoes. Hugs.

That’s wonderful of you, Pete. Thanks so much.
Wordpress has become horribly frustrating, so I appreciate the effort even more. Today it’s into some new weirdness with comments. Some show only here, others show only in the “guts” of the blog where I usually work. And at least one person that I know was here, but her comment doesn’t show at all. Thanks again.
