I’m updating this post to include an entry for the Thursday Doors Badge.  Here’s my humble offering.

Thursday Doors Favorite Doors Challenge

This time, I’m the one responding to a challenge.  The host of Thursday Doors, Dan Antion has a few challenges going this month.  This post will tell you more.

December 16th – This week is traditionally when we share our favorite doors from the current year. What doors were you particularly proud of in 2021? Which ones made you happiest? Which are special. The good news is you already took the photos, and they are in your library.

Of course, my favorite “doors” this year are from Dead of Winter: Journey 9, Doors of Attunement (Kindle:  relinks.me/B09F8Y5DML)

When the concept for that part of the epic came to me, ten years ago, I had thought… What if your ability to choose a path forward depended on the things that resonated with you?  The things to which you were attuned.  The number “three” is significant throughout the overall story.  With that lurking in my mind, I imagined three doors standing in the middle of a road in a strange world.  No wall, no visible support, just the doors standing there.

That idea was put into form as “the Doors of Attunement” when Emlyn, Osabide, and Zasha travel into a strange place known only as the Other Realm.

In honor of Thursday Doors, I’m giving away free Kindle copies of Dead of Winter: Journey 9, Doors of Attunement. Unfortunately, I can only do that in the USA.  If you have been following the Journeys and have not yet gotten #9, let me know in a comment so I can get your email to send it to you.

It’s important to read the Journeys in order, because each one begins where the previous one left off.  They are not “stand alone” stories.

  7. Again, I would like to say that to look at your messages is always a unique adventure. I really enjoyed looking at the series of special photos remembering the series from the beginning.   11. I think a printed and edited door counts as well, Teagan. It’s special to me to have gotten to know you a little bit better this year. 🙂 A merry Christmas to you and all the best for the year 2022!

    1. This is a lovely comment, Jan. It means a lot to me to know that I’ve stirred readers’ imaginations. Boabhan designed the wagon used by Mercedes and Tahira, and the larger one that belongs to her. I see the former as very ornate outside, like a gypsy wagon. So that door would have a window and gilded spindles decorating it, as well as carved relief.
      The larger one that Boabhan kept for herself is (in my mind) less ornate, but elegantly crafted. I suppose the door would need to be special, just the same. Perhaps it has polished inlay from the bones of that giant sea creature (I forget which Journey mentioned that). She had tried to save the sea-mammal with a long single horn, but it died despite her efforts. To honor its life she made a pen from part of it, so why not something to adorn the wagon’s door too. 🙂
