Cover Reveal — Dead of Winter: Journey 10, Pergesca

Wednesday, September 29, 2021

Welcome, my friends.  I’m hard at work on the October issue of Dead of Winter, so this post is just a quick cover reveal.  In the tenth installment of this epic fantasy, the travelers set out for the far away city which is the ancient seat of power of the Society of Deae Matres — Pergesca.  Those who are part of the Journeys will probably recognize the two men in the background for Hallgeir and his ancestor, Hallr.  In the foreground, Emlyn carries the legendary Red Eye.

  1. I am so glad to be able to enjoy this another of your wonderful creations. I love your new cover. You have an unusual way of using color. Designing the individuals and the other objects that you use show your gift for design and originality. Love it, keep up the excellent work! !

        1. It was hard for me to let go of that image, which inspired the “look” and posture of my Hallr, one of my favorite characters. I’m not happy with this new one, but I didn’t want people to assume a Star Trek connection in the storytelling.
LOL, an answer would be giving a big spoiler. Hallr… I’ll say that he’s complicated. This is from my notes: King of Floke Torsten 1000 years ago; Hallgeir’s ancestor. Titles: High King of the North, Master of the Frozen Lands, Lord of the White Marches.
          Happy weekend.

    1. Oh, the one with all the ghost vignettes. Using them gave me a way to show a broad picture of Emlyn’s diverse world.
Haha, that horse looks feistier than gentle Blossom, but she does have courage. I was surprised that it was hard to find an image of a horse with that coloring…
Thanks for visiting, Lauren. Hugs winging back to you.

    1. Thanks for being patient, Olga. Maybe a small delay. I’ve been in PTSD overwhelm all month. At this point, I’m amazed that I can brush my teeth. The ending of 9 touches on the multiple layers of this epic. I’ve managed to rewrite the beginning of 10 with new content and reminders that are subtle enough to not bog down the story for people who are reading them with little gap in between. Big hugs back to you. 🙂

    1. Ah, the history of how the Lost Library was lost. I struggled a lot with where to include that passage (in the overall epic). Journey 7 finally seemed like the right spot in the story’s flow. Originally it had been much earlier. Doing this as a monthly serial created different storytelling needs. What flowed in a single book novel didn’t fit for the monthly divisions. Anyhow. I’m delighted that you are enjoying it Robbie. Hugs on the wing!
