Coming Soon to a Steampunk Port Near You!

Hello, everyone. I’ve been hinting around now and then, that I’m working on an editing and illustration project.  I reached a good milestone with that over the weekend, so now I’m talking, not just hinting.

Back in 2016 I wrote the original version of my first steampunk story, The Delta Pearl. However, I thought it needed a “middle,” so I elected to make a blog serial of it, to achieve that.  With the help of random reader things, the story got fleshed-out. However, my ending also became the middle. Confused yet?  I realized that the original ending wasn’t big enough for the grandeur of that magical riverboat. The story kept going for quite a while, so it will be two illustrated books.

The Delta Pearl is the name of a steampunk riverboat. It’s filled with clockwork creatures, colorful characters, gemstones, opulence, and whimsy.  Perhaps the riverboat is a character as well. Émeraude Perlezenn has spent most of her 16 years living on the Delta Pearl and her life has already been an adventure.  However the excitement is only beginning.

Here’s the cover for book-1.  It will be coming soon, and book-2 will follow shortly thereafter.

I’m very sorry to say that the WordPress gremlins have been giving me fits by cropping my images lately. I had a devil of a time with this post, since the image was the whole point.  I finally kicked out the gremlins. Although who knows… Maybe they’ll manage to get into it again when I hit the publish button.  They wore me out, but I’m trying to muster up a “Tah-dah!”

    1. Sherry, that’s music to my ears. I wish I could tell you exactly when, but with my disabilities, I’m afraid to commit to a date. I’m *hoping* to publish in about a month. I’ll do an announcement here when I do. If you follow me on Amazon Author page, they’re supposed to send a notice when I publish something.

      Big hugs.

    1. Thanks, Pat. Book-1 ends approximately halfway through the story, after a cliffhanger with Emeraude. It’s not the place I had in mind, but if I had followed that, the first book would have been too long and the second too short. I was happy with the story and didn’t want to add more, just to make it longer. Hugs back.

    1. 😀 Thanks for making me smile, Noelle. I felt this one set the tone for the book much better than the old sepia cover, even though the opinion group I asked voted me down. LOL. Granted they had not seen this cover, just some “style examples” of images. Now to juggle the Atonement serial and final touches to book-1 of the Pearl. Have a good rest of the week. Hugs.

    1. GP, the fact that you dreamed about that story has never left my memory or my heart. “Crazy Horse Cal” the clockwork horse will be around… maybe not until book-2. Right now I’m not certain where he came in. Book-1 ends about halfway through the manuscript. Have a good rest of the week. Hugs.

  1. Fabulous work, Teagan! I remember the blog serial (how not?), and I am sure the book version with illustrations will be even better. Looking forward to it! And best of luck!

  2. Teagan, this is great news! I love the cover, and I can’t wait to have these books! I loved that story, the characters–human and mechanical–that you created and the nuances of living aboard the fascinating Delta Pearl. Read the serial – want the book!

    1. Thanks very much, Pete.
I’ve been trying to remember. I’m *think* I read Riverworld, but maybe I just gleaned things about it. I liked the idea of having Mark Twain as a fictional character, but the results fell far below my expectations. (There was a TV version. I saw part of that.)
If I read it, that was during a time in the late 1980s when my job was so slow that the company owner told me to just do whatever I wanted with my time “If you’ll just stay, because business is going to pick up a lot.” So I read everything the engineers brought to my desk, including several fantasy series. I know I read Farmer’s “World of Tiers” series during that time.
I’ve made up my own classification for much of the fantasy books of that era, Farmer’s series, the Conan series, and many others. I think of them as “muscle-bound fantasy.”

At any rate, The Delta Pearl is in no way similar to Riverworld. Thanks for visiting. Hugs.
