Gratitude

May is Get Caught Reading Month. I meant to do something special for that this year, but things like the kitchen sink blowing up — sending the faucet flying across the room — and a fountain spewing up to the ceiling sort of made me forget.  You wouldn’t have caught me reading very much this month, or writing much either.  However, I’ve caught you reading!  Here are shout-outs to some of the wonderful people I’ve caught reading the Journeys of “Dead of Winter” this month.

Got Caught Reading

It was completely unexpected when I caught Teri Polen reading Hullaba Lulu, a Dieselpunk Adventure on May 18th!  Lulu is one of my favorite characters, so I’m thankful that Teri gave her new life.

On May 1st, D. Wallace Peach shared a collection that includes her lovely review of Journey 3, The Fever Field.  A snippet, “Emlyn continues to be my favorite character and her ability to see into the world of the dead is intriguing. I loved the scene with the silver spirit/man. There is still a lot to learn about who he is and what Emlyn’s role will be, which makes me eager to read onward.”

May 10th, Olga Núñez Miret was caught reading Journey 4, The Old Road.  I’m always thrilled when someone who doesn’t usually read my chosen genre likes it.  “I usually don’t have the patience for high fantasy, because I like to jump straight into a story rather than have to spend a lot of time getting to understand the rules of the world the author has built. This serial obviates those problems. Not only we get bite-size instalments of the story once a month, but the author has created characters and situations we feel comfortable and familiar with from the start, while he keeps pulling us into an increasingly complex world.

I also caught Robbie Cheadle reading this issue.  She even made a video of her review!

Of course I hoped to feature the May issue — Journey 5, Llyn Pistyll Falls.  I caught Priscilla Bettis reading, “Emlyn’s spiritual gifts are growing, too, and it’s exciting to see how she plays into the larger Deae Matres/library/winter puzzle.”  I even caught Dan Antion reading it at his virtual bar.

D.L. Finn included the May issue in a collection of lovely reviews. “The Woman in Green, Boabhan, intrigues me, and I feel like there is so much more to uncover. With peril surrounding this group, Emlyn finds herself in constant danger.”

I also caught Anita Dawes reading the fifth Journey over at Books & Bonsai. “Dead of Winter gets better with every journey…”

Then I caught even more of you reading at Goodreads!  Like Pamela Wight.  Her review included this “Teagan Riordain Geneviene has such a unique creative story telling talent, writing of a time and place imagined, and yet it all seems quite plausible. Even (especially) the magic!”  If I blush any harder, something will catch fire.  Also thanks to a very quiet follower, EnchantedCat, who has been kind enough to review every Journey.

Journey 5, Llyn Pistyll Falls — Blurb

The titular dead of Winter begin this Journey in a collection of vignettes, before we move into the main story.  The Veil separating the world of the living and the Realm of the Dead has indeed become thin.  As feared the dead begin to enter the Realm of the Living.  Small outbreaks of chaos are scattered across the world as spirits try to resume their old lives.

Also in those shorts, two characters are introduced who will come back into the story in future Journeys — Gregorios, and Mairead who recalls the circumstance that brought Zasha and Tajín together.  The spirits also visit some characters from past Journeys.

Then Emlyn and company continue their travels.  Emlyn and Boabhan uncover a clue about the ancient staff, and that leads them to a new location.  They encounter the King of Hell, and this time, Arawn is not in a dream-like netherworld.

***

Now, I express my gratitude to each and every one of you for all your encouragement and support, every month and each day of the year.  And thank you for letting me share my joy and enthusiasm today.

Hugs on the wing!

    1. LOL, yeah, it did that several times before it was brought under control. It almost hit the window across the room once.
Thanks so much Denise — for all your support. I’m so happy that you are part of these Journeys. Hugs on the wing!

    1. Thank you kindly Rebecca. Speaking of such, I’ve decided my next blog serial will be like the very first one — completely based on random reader things — ever detail, from the setting, time, and characters will be driven by reader “things.”
I’ll take a few weeks off, from blog serials, when the Delta Pearl ends, but I’ve decided that is the next blog project. Hugs on the wing.

    1. It’s my pleasure, Teri. I was so excited when I saw your post. Yes, I keep telling myself that I was lucky that there wasn’t significant damage — especially since it was on a Saturday. Although it derailed my intentions for the month. Maybe a Get Caught Reading mini-series next year. Stay safe and well. Hugs on the wing!

  1. Sorry about the plumbing issues! That can be such a pain. I’ve added all of the journeys to my TBR. 😉 Your illustrations are captivating!

    1. Welcome Jen! Yes, I try to tell it in a funny way, but it was exhausting. Thanks for being interested in Dead of Winter, and about the images. A little while after I published the first novelette, it dawned on me that I was going to need a new cover each month — and that I needed to find a way to make each one similar yet different. There was a moment of panic! LOL, but I love making them so it’s fine. Hugs on the wing!

  2. Thanks, Teagan. I hope to get caught up reading Journey 5 soon, although depending on how things work out, I might read two journeys at once. Let’s see who catches whom! I hope things have settled down a bit for you, Teagan. It sounds like a very trying month so far. Take it easy and stay safe. ♥

    1. Olga, I’m honored and delighted by all your reviews. Your support means the world to me. Thanks too for reblogging. Yes, it’s been trying in several ways, but thankfully, nothing that would be huge to most people. Stay safe and well. Hugs on the wing!

  4. Thanks for the shout out, Teagan, but really… It’s my pleasure. I just finished Journey 5 and should get a review done today. Looking forward to Journey 6. Yay. Have an awesome day and keep writing ’em.

    1. Thanks so much, Dan. I wasn’t going to do a post today, because I have an “extra” one tomorrow. Then, feeling guilty that I had not supported Get Caught Reading Month for a couple of years now, I was suddenly inspired to do this one. I hope you catch me writing soon. I’m woefully behind this week. Hugs on the wing!
