Yes, you are in the right place. Welcome to my sanctuary. I’m here, off my usual Wednesday and Saturday schedule, because today I have a guest. Author, blogger, and fount of moral support, John W. Howell is here with his latest novel. I’m handing the reigns over to John and he’s going to tell you all about his book.
Take it away John!
New Book Launch – Eternal Road – The final stop.
Thank you so much for having me on your blog, Teagan, and thank you for helping me launch this book. I know you have a lot going with your books and serials and I am grateful you could help launch this book. Speaking of the book, let me describe it. Eternal Road is the story of two people finding their way through the selection process leading to the place where one will spend eternity.
Yes, it is true. They both have passed away. James Wainwright just died in an auto accident. Samantha Tourneau died seventeen years before. Sam is James’s guide to help him decide where to spend eternity. This is not your usual thriller or paranormal romance. It is a piece of fiction that is a combination of inspiration, adventure, time travel, sci-fi, a touch of erotica, and a dash of spiritual. In short, it is a lot of things, but hopefully, a story that will make you happy to have read it.
It is now available on Amazon in paper and Kindle. The Kindle edition is introductory priced at 99¢ until October 15th
Here are the universal links
The Blurb
James Wainwright picks up a hitchhiker and discovers two things 1. The woman he picks up is his childhood sweetheart, only Seventeen years older. 2. He is no longer of this world.
James began a road trip alone in his 1956 Oldsmobile. He stops for a hitchhiker only to discover she is his childhood sweetheart, Sam, who disappeared seventeen years before. James learns from Sam falling asleep miles back caused him to perish in a one-car accident. He also comes to understand that Sam was taken and murdered all those years ago, and now she has come back to help him find his eternal home.
The pair visit a number of times and places and are witness to a number of historical events. The rules dictate that they do no harm to the time continuum. Trying to be careful, they inadvertently come to the attention of Lucifer, who would love to have their souls as his subjects. They also find a threat to human survival and desperately need to put in place the fix necessary to save humankind.
The question becomes, will James find his eternal home in grace or lose the battle with Satan for his immortal soul and the future of human life with it? If you like time-travel, adventure, mystery, justice, and the supernatural, this story is for you.
An Excerpt
Sam slides her palm free. “So, let’s go find something to keep warm, and then we can come back to our jail.”
James feels taken with the anticipation of becoming one with Sam. “Why do we need to get warm? Since we’re dead, isn’t it natural that we shouldn’t need any of the Earthly comforts?”
Sam nods. “True enough—we wouldn’t feel cold, but what would people say about sleeping in this hovel and not needing blankets? Right now, we have on the lightest of clothing, and someone will wonder how we do it. Especially if the temperature does drop.”
James glances downward and then at Sam. “I suppose we need to act as normally as possible. And, now that you mention it, I feel as if I’m getting a chill.”
Sam gives James a punch in the arm, and he winces in pain. She cringes. “I’m sorry. I forgot about your poor shoulder.”
James rubs where it throbs. “Which begs the question—why the hell does my shoulder feel sore?”
Sam shakes her head. “I don’t have all the answers. Maybe physical trauma is something we need to be careful about. The pain could be a warning not to become too confident in our deadness.”
James laughs. “Deadness. You have a great way with words. Let’s go and find some blankets. You think these long rifles will be okay here?”
“I would tote them. It seems like everyone carries their guns around. Doesn’t seem like you’re ready for a fight without one.”
“Okay, but you need to tote one as well.”
“Sure, fine. Let’s go.”
The two pick up their long rifles, and James grabs the pouch. They go through the door and tell the jailer, who sits at a table, that they will be right back. He looks up and grunts his understanding. Then he surprises them with a question, “You two get the text?”
James feels stunned. “T-text?” James’s question hangs in the air like garlic fumes.
“Yeah, text. You think you can just ignore the man when he’s trying to reach you?”
James stands with his mouth open. Finally, he speaks, “Who are you?”
“Not important. My boss wants to have a parlay with you, and you would do well to listen to what he has to say.”
“B-but your boss. Uh … unless I’m mistaken, and if so, please excuse me, is the friggin’ Devil.”
The giant smiles. “You’re not wrong, my young man. His Highness is proud to be labeled as such. Of course, he does prefer the name Lucifer.”
Sam steps forward. “You know we’re on a trip to the eternal place, don’t you?”
The giant steeples his fingers. “Listen, sweetie; the whole underworld knows you two are on your precious trek. It’s like we get an update-broadcast throughout the halls of hell on exactly what you’re doing. I enjoyed that little eternal love session, by the way.”
James clenches his fists. “Now, you watch what you say, hell-boy.”
The giant lays his hands flat. “Or what, angel face? You gonna sock me in the jaw?”
“Hold on, James. I think we should find out what Lucifer wants. Do you know, uh, Mister …?”
The giant leans back in his chair. “Attila. Yes, that Attila, and I don’t care to get any more shit from this pipsqueak.”
“Who you calling a pipsqueak, Mr. Steroid rage?”
Sam holds up her hands. “All right, boys. We’ve had enough testosterone-speak for one day. Do I call you Mr. Hun, or what?”
“Attila will be just fine.”
Sam folds her arms. “What does Lucifer want with us?”
“As I told you, he wants to talk. He has a proposition for you, and I think you ought to listen.”

I haven’t had a chance to return John’s kindness at his blog, Robbie (my Internet has been down for a few hours). Thanks for mentioning his post. September is a hot time for books, and a reader’s delight. Thanks for visiting both places. Hugs on the wing!

It definitely seems that more books are sold over Halloween than Christmas in the USA, Teagan.
LikeLiked by 1 person
That’s interesting, Robbie. I haven’t looked into that. I stopped work on my current novel in progress, last year to hurry and get “Thistledown” out for the Christmas holidays — and it was a total bust. Maybe this pre-Halloween release will do better. Have a relaxing weekend. More hugs.

My excuse is I’m on holiday and reading on my iPhone which is more difficult for me 😂

Hahaha.I got into so much trouble in my last year of working . I was at a ski resort at 6000 foot altitude, totally hung over, the temp was zero F. I got a text which I read and then answered. Since I was on holiday I should have just let it go. It seems I misread the text and answered with an affermative when the correct answer was negative. What a mess later in the day when I read the message again along with the ten or so messages wondering if Ihad lost my mind. It took maybe a month to get everything squared away.

Ha! I ALMOST sent an email to my last former boss. Auto-correct changed her name, so it nearly began with “Hi Malarkey” regardless of the fact that name would have been more accurate, I wouldn’t have wanted to send it.

I can imagine. Hi Malarkey is a great salutation. Wouls have been worth a few laughs.

Thank you for mentioning this new book of John, Teagan! There are really great dialogues in it. Lol Will put it on my TBR, and awaiting your own novel. Hope i am best informed with next Wednesday? I am sorry for your internet problems. As more as the officials telling us here about faster internet, as less increasing is the speed itself. 😉 Have a beautiful weekend! Michael

Thank you Michael. I’m trying to “get over it” and do the best I can with the brief morning “window” when it usually works well.
I’m happy you enjoyed John’s visit here. He’s so talented.
Yes, my official launch of “Hullaba Lulu, a Dieselpunk Adventure” is Wednesday. Although I’m keeping it “low key”, only visiting half a dozen blogs. That will be hard enough to manage with my Internet. Wishing you a beautiful weekend too. Huge hugs.

And back atcha, though for me, it’s more like “hugs on the limping along,” than on the wing. 😀 Still. It’s the hug that counts, right? 😉
LikeLiked by 2 people
Yes, that’s what counts. And the limping along means even bigger hugs winging their way to you. I get it… my back has been more painful than usual all week. Of course, that’s probably from a couple of things I shouldn’t have lifted… oh well. 🙂

I’m sorry to hear that, Teagan. My limping along is more age-related, so I have good days and bad ones, but so far, the good days are still winning. 😀 Hope your back feels better soon! 🙂 (As for hugs, I’ll take ’em any way I can get ’em. And I’ll give ’em back, too!! 😉 )

The kittens are growing and getting fiesty. Too smart for their own good. Loki gets along with them, Sasha is tolerating them, Marble comes in the bedroom, but still swats and hisses at them. Spunk and Silver don’t come in the bedroom at all now. Do you have other choices for internet service down their?
