What a “Journey” it’s been.  We’re near the end of that road.  Sometimes it was sunny, other times dark.  I have heartfelt gratitude for everyone who has been with me.  I’m glad you’re part of the Journeys of “Dead of Winter.”  There’s still one more to go.

The Penultimate Journey Is Here!

Dead of Winter: Journey 13, The Harbor

I never intended to do much writing when I decided to convert this epic novel into an Amazon series of monthly novelettes.  It was already plenty long. Now the total is more than 1,140 pages and 248,700 words.  Plus, nearly all of the concluding Journey 14 will be new material.

Anyway, Journey 13 gave me the opportunity to highlight some of the characters who haven’t gotten as much attention.  The prologue features Tahira, the older member of the Society of Deae Matres.  Gethin, the horse whisperer, gets another part.  Also, the goddesses get further developed.

As most of you know, I call the installments “journeys,” because the characters travel across the complex world I built, experiencing new cultures and meeting new people.  For those who weren’t around for the beginning of Dead of Winter, this post tells the story of Winter’s Nightmare — or Why It Took 10 Years for me to publish the epic.

Here’s the Blurb

A great battle begins.  Action abounds as many threads are drawn together.  Arawn has amassed overwhelming legions of the dead.  Another unexpected but powerful foe comes into the battle.  All of Emlyn’s companions and friends are in grave danger as they face insurmountable odds.  Two goddesses could even the odds, but gods and goddesses are known to be unreliable.  Will they help? Or will they do more harm than good?

Meanwhile the goal of the Society of Deae Matres is to re-create the Binding to again trap Arawn and any other nightwalkers in the Realm of the Dead.  Yet, what about Boabhan and Lucetius?  Boabhan is at least half nightwalker.  Lucetius, her son, was conceived when Arawn violated her while attempting to turn her.  Will they be trapped in a new Binding along with their worst enemy?  This is revealed in Journey 13.

Come, be a part of the Journeys of Dead of Winter.

  2. I can’t believe you’re nearing the end, and I haven’t even started the journey yet. I’ll get there – and I also won’t have to wait each month for a new installment. Have a great weekend, Teagan – hugs to you and Crystal!

  3. How exciting, Teagan! So, Journey 14 is the last one.
At the risk of sounding a tad shallow, the book covers could be a book on their own…. like a coffee table book.
    Congratulations!

    1. Resa, you gave me a huge smile. I put so much thought and work into each cover, that also means a lot to me. Wow… a coffee table book… This one has at least 8 different images in the overall collage, not to mention the text. Happy weekend. Hugs on the wing.

    1. Hi Michael. No need to hurry. Take your time to enjoy. Yes, it’s very hard to promote the installments without giving “spoilers.” Someone asked if I would do a recap guest post, and I don’t think I can.
It’s very windy here today. Sustained winds 25 to 35 miles per hour, and gusts of 50. Crystal and I are hanging on tight.
      Hugs on the wing.

    1. Hi, Ms. Frances. Yes, #13 is finally here. Then #14 will be the conclusion. I admit that I’m a little intimidated about writing the new ending. The fact that I wasn’t satisfied with the original ending was one (of several) reason why this epic sat on my shelf for a decade before I did anything with it. Heartfelt thanks for all your encouragement. Hugs on the wing!

    1. I hope you love #13, Jan. It’s hard to believe that more than a year has passed. Or that the new ending has been waiting a decade for me to write it. Yet the characters never stopped being real to me. Hugs on the wing!

  4. I CAN’T WAIT TO READ JOURNEY 13! For the past three weeks I’ve been unable to download books onto my Kindle (long story, but at least I’ve been able to read books that had already been downloaded and waiting for me to get to), The plan is to get this problem fixed by the weekend, I have Teagan’s 13 to look forward to. Hooray!

    1. Ugh… I hate technical problems like that. I was beside myself when my “Echo spot” (an Alexa variation) went out for a few days.
Thank you, Pam. Your encouragement means a lot to me. I’m happy you are part of these Journeys. Hugs on the wing!
