Hello, all. It’s already Thursday for some of my readers, so I’m hitting the publish button for this post. Also, since I’m among the worst haters of acronyms, let me explain (even though most of you are familiar with it) “WIP” means work in progress. I’ve mentioned that I’m finishing up a novelette that will publish in about a month. It’s in the final proofing phase now. AND my long-time writing buddy and friend, Dan Antion also has a new novel that will be published pretty soon. So, I’m double grateful that he’s offered to let me use his photos for this post. Dan’s photos give me an additional means of letting this collaborative effort weave our two disparate books into one blog post.

Daphne: Yummy Human, I think you’re babbling. You can stop stressing out now — the plumber hooked up the new water heater, and you can stop the hourly mopping… Chillax, Yummy. Although… I’m still working on a suitable price for you to pay for locking Velma and me in a room for that whole morning…
Meanwhile, why don’t you tell everybody what your book has in common with Uncle Dan’s book and his pictures?

Alright, Daphne. The plot of my book doesn’t have anything at all to do with Dan Antion‘s upcoming novel. Dan’s story features his Rascal Todd character. Yes, she’s the one with Bonkers the cat. Dan’s is a complex murder mystery — it will keep you thinking. A museum is a very important part of the book. In fact, his title is “The Museum Murders.”

Velma: But Yummy Human… what’s your Roaring Twenties story about? It’s the “A Medium’s Peril” series, isn’t it? When I was looking over your shoulder, I saw you writing about a ghost, but there wasn’t any museum.

You’re right, Velma. However, a vintage radio is an important part of my novelette, and Dan took a lot of fun pictures at… (drum roll…) a radio museum. The working title for my story is “A Peril in Unseen Frequencies” — those frequencies pertain to a 1920s radio.

In this case, the #ThursdayDoors, are the cabinetry doors for the vintage radios. Except for my pictures of the Scoobies, all the photos in this post were taken by Dan Antion for a post he did in 2020 about the Vintage Radio and Communications Museum of Connecticut. You can see Dan’s full post here.

“The Museum Murders” by Dan Antion is coming soon (hopefully later this month I think).
Friendly comments are welcome. Hugs!

Oh, but wait! Here’s the obligatory shameless self-promotion. This is an urban fantasy in a small town. The town is quaint, quirky, and full of secretly supernatural people…

I very much enjoyed your Atonement stories. To be honest, I have not previously been interested in the roaring 20s, but the older I get, the more find myself interested in vintage things, and I love your writing style, so I am now looking forward to your new release.

Woohoo – a new upcoming release! My grandparents had a couple of radios like some of those in the photos. Funny how you forget about things until you see a picture. And Bond sympathizes with Velma and Daphne. He knows all about being locked in rooms.

Your Daphne & Velma could possibly just be my mother’s cat’s alter ego twins. Except I’m sure yours are much sweeter than mom’s Ginger. 😉 Give them pets for me. And much congrats and wishing success in both of the books being released!

Nice! I’m still laughing at Daphne’s comment. I’m glad you have a new water heater and can chillax this weekend.

Ha! She’s clearly getting even with me. Daphne had finally gotten better about her “love bites.” (It took a couple of years of patience…) But since then she’s started again. Yep… must be revenge for being locked up. Anyhow, thanks for reading and commenting. Here’s to ice water and to properly flowing hot water. Hugs.

Those pics of old radio cabinets are very cool!
I like how you managed to tie 2 unrelated books into 1 relatable post. Of course the cats take over every post, and I love looking at them. They look so healthy and beautiful.
Dan is also cool. I don’t visit his blog as much as I’d like too. It’s a time thing.
Okay.. Woman in Progress, you rock!
HUGS!

Hi Resa. LOL, I don’t think I could have tied this together without help from the Scoobies.
Thanks so much. I hope I’m a “woman in progress,” because there is so much I need to do. Hugs and purrs. 🤗 😻😽

I have also experienced water heater trauma. Mine blew up in a cold January and I had 3 inches of water in the downstairs. It was a slab and the poor water had no basement or crawl space to drain into and so it sat there and grew ever deeper. WE could start a water trauma support group. Congrats on all the writerly stuff. I’m always amazed at your productivity. On a side note, the photos brought back old memories of my childhood growing up with my grand parents while my father was away doing Navy things. He wrangled a great assignment in Cuba but his family was not allowed to join him. Best years of his life, he would say. My paternal grandparents were 1890’s generation and my maternal grandparents were 1915 generation. They both had exquisite radio, 1st generation TV, phonograph, and telephone furniture. Long after they stopped working, they kept the pieces as part of the decor. They were too beautiful to throw away. Later when I joined the Army in 1980, our equipment was all a mix of WWII and Korean War left overs. You could say I spent most of my life in a museum environment.

Hi, Daniel. It seems like 100 and more years ago they tried to make everything attractive and well crafted. Not so much now. This house is also built on a slab. I was worried, but fortunately was able to keep up with the water. Constant effort… Thanks for reading and commenting. Hugs!

Cool old stuff. The kitties look happy. My mom and dad were ham radio operators. In later years, my dad more than my mom, but my mom also worked in a radio station in the 40s and was a telephone operator, also. She loved Lilly Tomlin as Ernestine, the snarky, snorting telephone operator.

Ernestine always slayed me. Those sound like good memories, Tim. Have a relaxing evening. Hugs.

Those are great photos Teagan–I can see why you wanted to use them. Our stereo growing up had a lid on the top that you opened to put the records on the turntable. I haven’t thought about that in years. (K)

You’re welcome, Teagan. We took the front of the radio with the dials and made it into a wall hanging, also in the living room. Sadly, we have to stay away from antique shops now because we have exceeded our house’s capacity

Love those old radios. One of them looked like one my grandmother had in her back room!
I’m delighted to hear your plumbing has been fixed and tell the Scoobies they were better off out of the way and the water!

Thanks, Noelle. I hated to lock up the cats, because they don’t meet a lot of people, and I want them to be socialized. But the door had to be left open too much. No way would I take the risk. Hugs and purrs to you and the kitty crew.

Teagan, what a wonderful post! I love how Daphne and Velma keep the conversation moving while making sure we learn exactly what you are working on. I can hardly wait for “A Peril in Unseen Frequencies”. This is an extraordinary series. And those vintage radios are magnificent with all those invisible signals travelling through the air, voices arriving from somewhere beyond the room. I also like the way your story and Dan’s photographs have come together here. Two very different creative projects, yet the old radios seem to provide a bridge between them. Sending hugs on speedy wings to you and the Scoobies!!

Heartfelt thanks about the new novelette, Rebecca. It’s a quick read, but it has a lot of “story.” It also has some twists. A “crystal set” radio, a ghost, a conniving nephew… 😀 It’s in final edit stage now, but I’m holding it back on publication until October 1st, so it can be for Halloween month. I appreciate you reading and commenting. Hugs and purrs.

We had an old radio like those in the basement of our house in Detroit. I don’t know what happened to it but is sat down there since 1935.. wishing you and Dan the best on your next book.

Thanks for the shout-out, Teagan and for giving new life to those photos. I’m excited about your upcoming story. I’m glad the Scoobies pay close attention to the things going on around them. It’s good to have their insight.
I do plan on releasing The Museum Murders on September 16th, if everything goes well with Amazon.

Thanks. I’ve had trouble with Amazon over dates, so I’m a little gun shy, but that’s the plan.

I just looked up that cartoon, which pretty much sums up what has been going on at Chez Scoobies these days. We have a curse when it comes to holidays…one Fourth of July the car died…one Labor Day we found a leak in the roof…and a couple of Thanksgivings ago the door to the fridge fell off the Sunday before. We put a rush on the hinge part required so we had it just before Thanksgiving. Ya just never know what breakdown is waiting in the wings lol. Happy September. Hugs.

Earlier this year, Bruce, we had a toilet fail to the point of needing to be replaced on New Year’s Day. Then, on February first, a different toilet failed! Things go in waves.

And when it comes to water-related fixtures or appliances, those waves can be pretty literal. 😉

Ugh! Bruce, you have my complete sympathy. The refrigerator thing at Thanksgiving… that’s worthy of a Supernatural episode. 😀

Those vintage radios are a trip to the wayback machine for sure, Teagan. I actually got to see one in person when visiting with my great-grandparents. Radio technology advancements sure have made it easier (and smaller) to tune in since then lol. Water heater technology has also improved a lot since the early days, and hopefully those Scoobies will not be cheated out of any Mom time due to mop duty from here on out. 😊

Hey, Bruce. What a coincidence — I was just at your blog, checking to see if you had a new post. Yeah… it seems to be repair time around this house. I thought my clothes dryer was going to quit in the middle of all the wet-towel mess. But shoving a wedge under one leg that had somehow gotten shorter seems to have fixed the scary moan sound it was making. Last week, it was my big air purifier (and the $100 wire part). I’m reminded of an old Garfield cartoon, where he seemed to be chased through the house by berserk small appliances. He ran to a calendar and said “Just as I thought. Today is the day all the warranties expired.” LOL Happy September. Hugs.

Warranty expiration day is an invitation to machines to break. So is the day your IRS refund hits the bank.

Since my tax refund barely covers the cost of the software, that idea is particularly cringe-worthy, Dan. 🙂
