Imagine Something Wondrous 3 (like WordPress not ruining something else)

A Utopia blue dome city people in street by Teagan via Night Cafe

Saturday, January 24, 2026,

Does that title sound cranky?  I don’t care. I’m ready to “resign.” WordPress has destroyed my (constantly adapting) way of creating posts one time too many.  After many hours of trying since I encountered their latest debacle of an “improvement” yesterday, I’m going to do my best to give you something pleasant to look at, but… WordPress killed all the positivity I mustered up for the post I wanted to create.  So here’s my hypocritical attempt at blowing sunshine up the collective posterior of the world.

Imagine Something Wondrous

As we walk into our utopia city, dozens of happy people are headed the same way.  Within the city, beyond sparkling, colorful buildings, are peaceful open parks where people gather.  They are comfortable with one another.  Their discussions are cheerful.  Everyone shows kindness and they all look after one another.  Love is the song they sing, because they know that fear is the way we die.

Relaxed Gatherings

Mix of people sitting in park w city beyond by Teagan Via Night Cafe

Some groups sit having lively discussions.  Other groups just sing.  Like the video below of the Youngbloods performing “Get Together.”

One of my favorite imaginary places to gather with friends is Atonement, Tennessee.  It’s an ordinary if quirky small town… except for having a lot of supernatural people living quietly among the normal population. With that, here’s the obligatory shameless self-promotion.

Everybody get together and try to love one another right now.  Friendly comments are welcome.  Thanks for visiting.  Hugs!

  1. I really like the images, and I’m glad that you’re staying with us. I totally understand your frustration. I was a knowledge manager for a while, and I hated website design, especially when the system received updates. We spent weeks getting things back to the way customers wanted them, just to repeat the process with the next update. Painful, to say the least.

That was one of the reasons I went with a super simple design for my blog, to support my writing and the occasional photo. I just want to post and move on to something else. I know my limits, and I would have gone insane if my website got all messed up because of updates. I probably need to refresh my site at some point, but I don’t feel like messing with that now.

I hope you’re feeling better today and have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

    1. Thanks for your encouragement, Edward. Regardless of the type of company or agency I always worked in IT divisions, so I’m very familiar with the situation you described. Yep — I hear you.

I actually use a simple WordPress theme. I’ve also come to realize (through what other users say) that not everyone receives updates at the same time — and sometimes not at all. Maybe some themes are impacted when others aren’t, who knows.

It’s important to me to be able to format, especially font color. I have rather low vision. There are many blogs that are downright painful for me to read ( when they don’t have the Reader option) because they use gray text (moreover often light fonts on a pastel background). Since it’s hard for me to read, I certainly don’t want to have that on my own blog. WP has already made that hard enough to spot on the creation page… On my midweek post, I gave up and left the gray font because I was spending too much time on it.

Anyway, I can edit, but it has to be done in a smaller “window,” which is more difficult and takes longer. I’m getting used to it, but I doubt that I’ll have the tenacity or time to do the kind of posts I prefer to write. Wishing you a lovely weekend too. Hugs.

  2. WP and Apple just did updates. Everything on my Ipad has changed, my browser area is NOW BLACK, instead of white, so many things changed. As you mentioned, fixes are supposed to improve the experience, instead it makes it more cumbersome. LOL – In Outlook, the search feature used to be right no top, now it was moved WAY to the RIGHT! Does not make sense and took me forever to figure that out. I guess you hit a nerve with your post. Nothing to do about it. It’s snowing outside, cold temps, looking forward to Spring and being outside again. 🦜

    1. Welcome, Monica. I’m sorry that you can relate to my frustration. Of one thing we can be sure, whenever there is a so-called improvement that makes everyone miserable — there’s also a guy who got a big bonus for his “brilliant” idea.

Here’s to a better, easier week for all of us. Hugs.

  3. Sorry to hear about your troubles, Teagan. You’d never know it from your blog post. Word Press drives me nuts, especially the formatting. Frustrating, aggravating, ulcer-inducing!

Love, love that song. But oh the hair!

    1. Thank you kindly, Noelle. Ulcer-inducing is right. Yeesh.
You made me laugh about the song. It was the best time for music, to me, but there was some serious big-fluffy-hair — and moustaches nearly as big! Still… frankly, that’s not as bad as all the long beards today. I wish they’d leave those to Santa Claus, and ZZ Top. 😀 Hugs.

  4. Oh gosh Teagan, I’m so sorry but we wouldn’t have known a bit as it’s all such a great post! I do understand your frustration. I just sent them an email with my grievances and now the AI generated information has steered me to the peers that be but my steam has run out. We have to stay on them tho in our “spare time”. 😳feeling your pain! ♥️

    1. Hi, Cindy. I’m sorry you’ve had similar problems with it. You’d think they would have some interest in customer satisfaction… The past several days were an (aheeemmm) “cluster” of many not so big things that just wouldn’t let up. I’m trying to manifest a better new week. Maybe like the Wizard of Oz with the snow on the sleep-inducing poppy field, the snow will take out the bad… Wishing you a splendid new week. Hugs.

  5. I am still using the Classic Editor too, Teagan, and I can see that is for the exact same reasons as yourself… some formatting details and aspects in a post that cannot be obtained by using the Block Editor. And it can be so annoying, I feel this block editor as a very rigid structure of… like templates almost, and even it may have its things on the plus side, those other details that I have grown used for 10 years now are more important to me, and I cannot give them up. Also I cannot see why they do not seem able to make a newer editor that is more flexible and versatile, an improvement for the Classic, without limiting some formatting parts that give freedom of movement within creating a post… especially when writing poetry with various stanza styles, and so on. 🙄

The image of the bright blue-domed city is so beautiful, and the idea of people having peaceful gatherings and conversations sounds wonderful. I have always thought about that… wondering how people could find a way to grow and evolve beyond the egos, so to say, so with much less friction and radical differences between them, that usually bring about arguments and endless fights. There must be a way, I am sure. 💕

Lastly, I would also like to let you know that I have posted my review of Book 1 of The Delta Pearl this past week on my new blog, which I hope will bring a smile to you, after all the WordPress commotion for this lovely Imagine post. A nice Sunday, Teagan, and a good new week ahead! 😊

  6. Sorry for the roadblocks WordPress keeps putting in front of you. This post makes me feel good. I had forgotten about the Youngbloods. I’d love it if we could have that kind of gathering today.

We all could use a place to escape – Atonement sounds like a good choice.

    1. Thanks, Dan. I’m so glad to know that (most of) this post did what I originally meant for it to do.
Yes, I’m ready to pack my bags and head for my imaginary town — not my roof is leaking in a second place… The “40 year” metal roof I had installed… just six years ago… [shakes head]. Hugs.

    1. Michael, my friend, it’s wonderful to see you.
“Childish people in management” — I never thought of it quite that way, but you are exactly right. I’ve had so many childish managers in my work life. Sometimes I’ve said they were egotistical, or they “felt threatened by competence”. But you got to the core of it — they are childish. Hugs.

  7. That sounds like a great place to live Teagan. May it come to pass.
My WP posting creation was kind of strange this morning, mostly in the way it looked, but it worked basically the same. You have every right to be upset–I used to complain to the “happiness engineers” but I gave up. They keep fixing what isn’t broken until it actually is…(K)

    1. Truer words were never spoken, Kerfe (re WordPress).
I think I was seeing the same thing you mentioned (the way it looked) — I had to edit via a little box, that was small even when made supposedly full size. Since the first time they messed with the Classic Editor, I’ve been making my own templates, to copy my formatting easily. Now the results of that are…deplorable. Thanks for spending part of your day here. Hugs.

  8. I understand how frustrating it must be, Teagan, because I know you do a lot of hard work to create your wonderful posts, and once you’ve found the perfect way to do it, WordPress goes and messes it up. I ended up using the blocks by default, after trying to hold onto Classic for quite a while, but, mine are so simple that I just about manage (although sometimes it still manages to make complicated even my simple posts).

I agree that the place you’ve created with your images is beautiful, and I hope there were many like those around. But I am sure we’ll meet at Atonement. Tenessee, because it’s also one of my favourite places to spend time, and I’d love to visit it in real life.

Sending you positive vibes, and hoping that the rest of the weekend is peaceful and enjoyable. Big hugs and love to the Scoobies. ♥

  9. Classic Editor is so yesterday. Using blocks is so easy. I know it’s hard to change and it takes a while to get use to creating in blocks.
WP told us years ago that they were getting rid of classic and the complaints made them keep it but they don’t support it with any enthusiasm.
I would be happy to help because I don’t want to lose you and you wonderful posts Teagan 🥰

    1. That’s really kind of you, Brian. I can see how the Blocks are good for posts that are heavy on photos. I’ve used the blocks sometimes, but they don’t work well for the way I prefer to format my posts. I do a lot of formatting to get look I want. Plus I usually divide a post into several parts, which makes the blocks a pain, and when it comes to editing, they’re even worse. I spend multiple hours on each post, so I started making templates to help. Now I can’t use any of them, at least not effectively.

But I enjoy, and need the community here, so despite threatening to resign, 🙄 😒 I’ll keep going. I need to scale back my posts though… Thanks for your encouragement. I do appreciate it. Hugs. 🙏

          1. Oh no please don’t take it that way Teagan.
I meant that I just bung up photos and could never do writing formatting as well as you.
In my last year of working, I had to use blocks to write my media/PR stuff and someone in head office would make it look good 😂

  10. WordPress frustrates me to no end when the Happiness Engineers pretend to not understand what is going on. Every time I have asked for help I didn’t get any. After a series of questions on the same level as “Is your computer plugged in.” they usually drop me with an unresolved issue. Your utopia cities look great and I love the concept, Teagan. Hugs

    1. Ya know! John, I keep developing my own work arounds, but… I was already having half a dozen little things that make my life more difficult — all going wrong at the same moment that this “improvement” hit me. I had a meltdown…
Thanks for joining me in this fantasy world for a while. Hugs winging back to you.

    1. LOL, that’s the beauty of fictional towns, especially fantasy fictional ones — the weather and everything else can be whatever we want. The mountain towns nearby (within a 1 hour or less drive) are starting to get hit pretty hard, but they’re 7000 to 9000 ft. altitude (while I’m about 4350 ft, not mountains). Our low is getting into the low teens, but that’s not terribly unusual for January. However, it’s been a pale gray sky all day which is rare, and rainy too, keeping the high temp down. I still think my town is dodging most of this. Stay safe and warm. Hugs.

    1. They’ve tampered with the Classic Editor again. At least for whatever gateway or setup I have. They keep making it harder and much more time consuming to do a post… It’s become a huge effort for very little result. Now, I’m only here for the wonderful community. Thanks for visiting, Robbie. Hugs.
