2026-01-05 Daphne sitting up on sofa
Daphne

Hello, all.  Let me tell you a funny thing about Daphne.  She doesn’t meow.  She makes all matter of chirping and trilling sounds, but not a meow among them.  When she’s extra excited about playing, she makes a woo-ooo-whoo sound.  I’ve finally figured it out — she’s singing the opening of Kung Fu Fighting.  The Carl Douglas video is below for those who don’t know the song. (AND NOW YouTube removed that TOO because of a copyright issue… I think that so called third party is screwing with stuff big time.  Here’s a different video of that too…  I say “too,” because last night they did that to my own video farther down the post.)

And that might explain all the “Cat Fu Fighting” that goes on around here.

For once, I was fast enough to catch an epic “Battle Hammock” on video (scroll down).

And then, some “third party” (insert expletive of your choice) at YouTube lodged a copyright complaint because of the public domain music I used. Not the musician or the songwriter, but a third party… AND the song was stated as being free to use.  A third party…  Yes, I’m extremely annoyed.  Fine. I re-did the video. I like the new song better anyway.

  1. Teagan, this is a wonderfully fun post. Daphne singing Kung Fu Fighting is exactly the kind of joy the internet needs more of. I love how you keep choosing playfulness and delight, even when the technical gremlins try to get in the way. Your videos always feel like small pockets of happiness, and that comes through no matter what music is playing. Sending many hugs on speedy wings to you and the Scoobies!

    1. Thank you, Rebecca — for understanding what I try to achieve, and just for being you. I could not wish for or imagine a better compliment than “small pockets of happiness.” I hope this week has been good to you, and that the weekend is bliss. Hugs winging back to you. ❤

        1. Yes! A deep breath of crisp winter air in the sunshine. Cloudy days are rare here, but I have not forgotten how good it feels when the sun comes out after a long string of cloudy or rainy days. Inhale, exhale, and repeat. Then go ahead and make a loud sigh of contentment! 😀

  2. Wow to that high kick… and an even bigger Wow that you caught it in action… Daphne is nearly the double of our cat Biscuit… 🙂 We rescued him in 2019… He is now 15, and only this last year has he found his voice… 🙂 So I so understand those little funny noises …. Its the LOOKS that get me…. 🙂 with one Look he can floor you 🙂 Sending big hugs Teagan… Hopefully this year I may keep in contact more my friend.. Much love to you and the Furbies 🙂 😸😸💖

    1. You are too kind, Sue — I feel I’m the one who had not visited you enough. Here’s to an energized New Year, my friend. Yes, Daphne is a big girl… Through whatever stroke of fate, most of my cats turned out large, except for Crystal, my “little bitty girl,” who preceded these two. Velma is about her size. Amazing that they are sisters from the same litter.
Haha, yes I know those looks. Although Velma’s favorite look is the “I’m hypnotizing you to give me a treat” stare. She’s gotten very determined with that. LOL. Thank you for visiting. Hugs winging back to you.

      1. I meant Daphne in looks was Biscuits double.. He is Ginger/ Biscuit . My bad grammar of explaining lol Biscuit is now putting back his weight after having 11 teeth removed in the Summer of last year… Where his weight dropped off him as he wouldn’t eat..
OH yes those Looks…. We get them all the time… 🙂 haha… You get to know the LOOK of feed me… and that turn your back on you Look when they do not get what they want Haha….
Sending love right back…. xx 💕😸

        1. Oh, that’s my bad, Sue. Her weight has just been on my mind. Whenever I try anything to adjust her food, Velma is the one who loses weight. She’s about 40% heavier than Velma, but even without weight, she’s a few inches longer and taller — she really is a big kitty. (Though nothing to a Maine Coon cat.) I’m so glad Biscuit is rebuilding himself.

  3. Teagan, a delightful post and I’m smiling at the cat-fu fighting term! Daphne was not giving up her cosy seat! The music works great with the video and for some reason reminds me of the film Reservoir Dogs. I’m sure the pair are best buddies most of the time.

      1. It did look like gentle fu fight, rather half-hearted, bless! They are adorable!

The film is okay, not my favourite by any means, but I was reminded of their fight scenes mixed over with classy funky music – that worked really well.

  4. This was so much fun! We’ve seen some antics between Bond and Sora when she’s here, but then she pulls out those murder claws and it comes to a griding halt. Bond would totally steal Daphne’s bat toy in the pic above.

  5. All smiles here, Teagan. The girls are are quite an interesting duo.

I’m somewhat disturbed by the encounter with the music. It sounds like you had all your bases covered. I have to admit, I didn’t know Pixabay had music. I’ve only used music from YouTube,

    1. It’s the term “third party” that bothers me most, Dan. It makes it sound like anybody can just mess with somebody, on a baseless whim.
I didn’t know about Pixabay’s music until the past couple of years. I never found it while I was on their site… but I guess I wasn’t looking. Once I searched Google for “___ Free Music” and many of the results turned out to be at Pixabay. So now, I Google “____ music Pixabay” and go to Pixabay’s page from there. It’s easier that way. Even though one is not required to, I credited the artist in the video’s properties. Now I’m thinking I probably shouldn’t do that again… (eye roll). Hugs.

  6. It is rewarding to find a personal trainer who will go to such great lengths to “assist” you lol. I had not heard Kung Fu Fighting in ages, Teagan. It was quite appropriate here! Hugs to you and those workout partners of yours!

  7. Loved the Scoobies fighting to music. I think Samantha and Garfield could give them a run for their money. Ear back, tail twitching… my two fight at least once a day. Hubs yells at them, I just let them fight. Then Garfield with chase her around the house until she gets up on her cat tree. But he greets her with a sniff and a lick every morning. Go figure.

Loved this post – anyone with two cats will relate!

  8. Fabulous video and images, Teagan. I love their fights, and I’m sure they’re very funny live.

It’s a shame that people can be so mean and envious just for the sake of it, but, the end result is excellent. Take care, big hugs, and love to the Scoobies… (Yes, I wouldn’t there to try a ninja fight with either of them). ♥

    1. Thanks, Robbie. I’ve used music from Pixabay for several videos. (Animoto includes a lot of songs, but despite the quantity, it doesn’t feel like a lot of variety in sound.) I’ve never had this kind of issue before. The term “third party” — and the fact that this morning I had to change the Carl Douglas video for the same reason, makes me think that “third party” is in there just making trouble for the heck of it. I really don’t see how an outside party could be allowed to make a copyright claim… I credited the Pixabay artist, and probably should not have. Anyway, have a good rest of the week. Hugs.
