Caturday Morning’s Broken: Scoobies Song Parody

Saturday, October 11, 2025

In the predawn stillness, after a night of tossing and turning, with unpleasant dreams during the scant moments of sleep, a woman finally drifted in peaceful slumber.  However, elsewhere in the house…

Velma

“Velma, did you know that when Yummy Human was kitten-age there was a famous cat singer named Steven?  It’s true, I saw him on the interwebs.”

“Daphne, now you’re just making up stuff.  Shame on you.”

“It’s true, Velma.  Stop laughing at me.  I’m-a gonna get you!”

Daphne hears Velma behind 08-2052

“Not if I get you first, Daphne.  And you know who’s faster.  Here I come!”

“Look out, Velma!  You’re going to slide into the—”

“Daphne, I hear Yummy Human waking up!  We’d better get in there and look angelic.”

Daphne on bed questioning
Daphne

Velma:  Morning has broken, but we didn’t break it.

Daphne:  Blackbird has spoken, but we didn’t eat him.

Velma in bed
Velma

Both:  Praise for the tuna, praise for the catnip.

Praise for the treats that, you’re about to give us.

  1. Great post Teagan…..brought a smile to my face as I remember our two Maine Coons when they were much younger (they’re 13 years old) and more active…..your post brought a huge smile to my face with their shenanigans!!:)

  2. Those Scoobies! Only to be rivaled by the Cherob Lane Fuzzybutts, both of whom decided that since I’d spent 15 hours getting home from Maine yesterday and was exhausted, I need to be awakened with pouncing on me, knocking on the bedside lamp and chewing my hair at 6AM.

    1. Haha. Not to mention meows and squeaks. For the longest they only squeaked and trilled. They sounded more like birds than cats. It took a couple of years, but Velma finally developed a little meow. Daphne still doesn’t meow. She makes high-pitched squeaks, and when she’s extra playful, she makes this weird “Woo-ooh!” noise. Thanks for joining us, Kerfe. Hugs.

  3. Velma and Daphne are the best, Teagan. Purrfectly understandable tuna and catnip reign supreme in Scooby-land. I have experienced a few “broken mornings” in my lifetime but over time I’d like to think I have learned to get the upper hand on them…mostly by not “breaking down” the night before!🤣

  4. Oh, Teagan — this absolutely made my morning! I could hear Daphne and Velma’s voices so clearly. You have such a gift for bringing these scenes to life with humour and heart. “Morning has broken, but we didn’t break it” is going to stay with me all day. What a purr-fect start to the day! Sending hugs on speedy wings to you and the Scoobies!

    1. LOL. I’m so happy to make you laugh, Rebecca. Once that got into my head… I don’t think I’ll ever hear that song the same way again. Someone online, I don’t remember who (it might even have been one of your posts) mentioned either the break of day or the break of dawn, and my mind went straight to this parody. The Scoobies and I send hugs back to you. ❤

  5. Hilarious, Teagan!

Ahh, the pussy cats of life! They make it better for me, even if they did break the morning, or that potted plant on the window sill.

Cat Stevens wrote many wonderful songs. I wish he would have stayed and written and sung more.

Thanks for the tips on who was up at Bad Moon Rising! I’ll head over there later!

Hugs on wings & hugs that sing!

        1. Oh, thanks for asking. Most evenings I spend about half an hour with it. I still can’t play any songs. I’m just trying to get adjusted to the layout of the notes and learn where they are. I found Amazing Grace on it — but never can remember where the notes are. Two nights ago, I was just playing random notes and realized that somewhere in the mix I had played the notes to “Taps.” So I played that. No idea where those notes were now, LOL. I got the electro-acoustic version, but I haven’t tried to hook it up to anything yet.

I had hoped to maybe do mini podcasts or something with it, as something to blog about. But I’m too self-conscious of my hands, and I don’t have the right equipment to set up a camera… or a camera for that matter. I’m trying to keep an open mind about playing it and what I might be able to do with it. Even playing random notes on it is relaxing though.

          1. That’s interesting.
I have a thing about my hands, too!
Well, keep playing! You know, it could be great background music for your book videos

It would be unique, and does have a fanciful tone.
Just relaxing is good enough. How are the Scoobies taking to it?

            1. Ah, that’s a fun thought about the background music. I’m sorry that you share my discomfort about hands. As a child, women were always going on about how long my fingers are. It was probably supposed to be a positive thing, but nobody told me that. LOL, I started walking around with my hands in fists to hide my “wicked witch of the west” fingers. Of course later, passive aggressive women often made sideways remarks about women how have “man hands.” Now they’re also old, because I never took care of them. Haha — I could say that the drum is only 6 inches across. Not big hands — little bitty drum!
The Scoobies are indifferent so far. That’s an improvement, because when I play the piano, they leave the room, and often hide under the bed. Adorable critics, those two.

              1. Yes, the hands. For me it’s the aging, and I have a finger tip that bends to a side. I think it is deformed from a lifetime of sewing(pushing the needle in) .
It’s still useful, but looks ugly!

Well, who knows? Maybe one day the Scoobies will decide it’s their piano to sleep on. Gotta love cats!

      1. I had such a scare last night…I have a 2nd kitchen of of my main kitchen with doors that have screens either end so as to allow the free flow of air especiallly when wok cooking …Sir Olly found a corner on the screen that must have come unattached and he managed to get out luckily Shadow didn’t follow him…I was outside in the pitch black hoping he hadn’t gone down the gully which runs down that side of the house…I was panicking big time but found the little bugger playing under my date palm…I was imaging all sorts he got the biggest cuddle and gentle scolding for scaring me but alls well that ends well 😸😺😻

          1. I know Teagan my heart was thumping…luckily he doesn’t run if I call him he just stands still I think maybe he was a little scared as his normally flat furred tail was really fluffed up …and he was on my lap for ages much longer than normal Hugs back at you xx

  8. That’s a wonderful song, and, of course, the Scoobies version is hilariously apt and very catty! Happy Saturday to you all, dear Teagan! I hope you manage to catch some sleep with all these shenanigans going on! ♥
