Hello everyone. Today I’m at Teri Polen’s blog, where she’s interviewing me for her October book festival, Bad Moon Rising. This is a companion post for our discussion. I hope you’ll visit Teri’s blog for the fun Halloween questions she asked me.
Here’s one of the great questions Teri asked me:
On Halloween, you wake up with the ability to see and communicate with ghosts. How do you use this newfound power?

My answer: Now and then I add real people from history to my stories, but I haven’t included any of the literary greats. So, I would use my newfound power to let some ghostly great writers of suspense and horror hold their own séance! If I could collect say… H.P. Lovecraft, Mary Shelley, Daphne Du Maurier, Trueman Capote, and Mary Stewart, who (or maybe what) might they summon at a séance? That’s a little too much to ponder for this interview, but I hope everyone will have fun with the idea.

A Peril in the Vines
Coming Very Soon
For Bad Moon Rising, I’m announcing volume-3 in my 1920s “light horror” paranormal suspense series, A Medium’s Peril. The new one is “A Peril in the Vines.”
Coming Very Soon

In the Roaring Twenties, a gruesome vision leads famous psychic medium, Daphne Moultrie and her friends to a small town’s pumpkin festival. A tangle of danger ensues. They meet a handsome doctor, although something about him bothers our heroine. There’s also a mysterious teenaged refugee. Perhaps strangest of all is the quaint cottage where they stay — or at least the vines that almost cover it…

I hope you’ll join me at Bad Moon Rising for more fun. Thanks for visiting. Happy Halloween!

Thanks, David — I try. Even though this series lacks the same kind of whimsy as most of my other stories, I do try for bits of fun in the characters. Have a lovely November.

That sounds cool, Teagan, calling some of the great literary figures. If I had the opportunity to call/connect with the dead, I’ll call my parents, and all maternal/paternal aunts/uncles, grandparents and whosoever connected in the family. I have like a huge list of unanswered questions I want to ask and find answers for them. In a way, I’ll be digging up all the skeletons (pun intended) in that seance. Not sure, if they’ll let me live by the end of the session but that knowledge will be worth the risk.

Haha. A seance held by literary greats is probably safer than one with anyone’s family. Hugs.

Super-cool pictures! I love the effect, and the photo choices! If I could communicate with the departed, I’d have a big happy reunion with my late loved ones. Sometimes I have those in dreams, and it would be great to have one for real. 🙂

The newspaper theme images turned out to be a ton of work… but I’m glad I went with the idea. I appreciate the good feedback, Marian. Hugs.

Thanks so much, Kerfe. Teri had a whole list of great questions. She said to pick 3 fun questions, and 3 of the writing-related questions. It was hard to choose. Big hugs.

Your slide show of photos was intriguing. I particularly like how the photos emerge from the newspaper background.

Thanks for that feedback, Liz. Those images turned out to be a lot more work than I anticipated, but I’m glad I went with the idea. I used real 1920s photos and (mostly) 1920s newspaper pages for the backgrounds — those were hard to get. Hugs.

That was a good bit of fun over at Terri’s! I left a comment over there.
As for this post…LOVE what you did with the vintage pics and the newspaper collages. Fabulous, Teagan.
I’m sure you already know my fave page is the one with what looks like a Chanel gown. Chanel or not, I love it!
Congratulations on releasing A Peril in the Vines!
Teagan, both posts have added up to a lot of fun and enchantment.
Thank You! HUGS!

Huge thanks for visiting both posts Resa. Ah! I should have known that image would catch your eye. It reminded me of one from one of the Gatsby movies (a fairly recent version, although I don’t know what year, or whether there has been another since). I was disappointed that I couldn’t get a clearer picture of that gown. The information I found is this: Model Marion Morehouse, dress with a satin bodice and tulle skirt by Callot, with a cap and jewelry by Black, Starr, and Frost.
Big hugs winging back to you.

Those are really neat collages, Teagan. What a question! There are so many great authors and people to choose from!

Thanks so much, Deborah. I really shouldn’t have started them, when I knew I had such a short time to finish this novella, because they’re so time consuming. But they’re fun too! I’m happy you liked them. Hugs.

I’m on my way over to Teri’s place, but I like your answer. I’m not sure I’d want to be in the room with those ghosts, at least not alone. I have catering experience, maybe I could serve food when you have them over.
I’m looking forward to A Peril in the Vines. I hope you have a nice day.
