Hello, everyone.  The Scoobies — Velma and Daphne, enjoyed their last visit with you so much that they wanted to come back.

♣ ♣ ♣

Velma:  Are you sure it isn’t Halloween yet?  Isn’t that a pumpkin over there?  But the color’s sort of… wrong.

Daphne:  Jeepers, Velma.  No, it isn’t Halloween.  So let’s wiggle out of these costumes.  Why are you in a rush for All Hallows Eve?

Velma:  Yummy Human sits at her computer typing all day, saying she has to be ready by Halloween.  Jinkies, Daphne, if it will hurry and get here, she’ll play with us more.  Just now she totally ignored me when I started a round of “Meow Minou.”  It’s shameful — she’s only stopped to play with me six times today.

Velma

Daphne:  Jeepers! Do you mean that Marco Polo game you play? You call out “meow” from some place that you aren’t supposed to be — and she calls back “Minou”?  That even drives me crazy.  Play with your wine corks instead.

Velma:  I still think it’s Halloween.  Don’t you see that spiky yellow pumpkin?

Daphne:  Jeepers!  Velma, that’s no pumpkin.  What in Bastet’s name is that thing?

Daphne

Velma:  Finally… I thought you were never going to take my bait about that thing, Daphne.  Now I can stop playing dumb.  We’re meant to scrub our cheeks on it, but I’d rather use Yummy’s big toe.

Daphne:  That’s because you always try to sneak a nibble from that toe.  Jeepers, why don’t you get in trouble for your nibbles?  That’s not fair.

Velma:  Jinkies! That’s because my love bites are tiny nibbles.  I know you’ve never drawn blood, but your love bites really are bites.

Daphne

Daphne:  I can’t help myself.  Love bites are a natural part of cuddles.  Hey, the yellow thing looks the same from up here. Look, that’s a little place for catnip.  Why did Yummy Human put catnip in this thing.  She knows I like Root better.

Velma:  Maybe because you get too crazy for valerian root.  I think you have a root problem.  You need help…

Daphne:  Does it do anything?

Velma:  Not that I can tell.  I’m bored.  Let’s see if we can find the box it came in.

Daphne:  Or we could just take a nap…

Bad Moon Rising is at Teri Polen’s blog, Books & Such.  It lasts all October.  Don’t miss Darlene Foster’s interview a few days ago.

Yummy Human will be there October 27th.

  1. “You have a root problem”, lol. I haven’t seen the yellow face scratching thing. I think Bond might go for that one. Then again, the last thing I thought he’d like he totally ignored, and I gave it to Son #2’s girlfriend for her cat, Cleo. The Scoobies are just adorable.

    1. Did you shake it before offering it to Bond? LOL, sorry — couldn’t resist. They made a green one that looked a lot more like the cactus it’s supposed to be. After 2 weeks, Daphne uses it a little — she likes to scrub. Although I haven’t seen Velma with it yet. The bad thing is that it’s light as a feather. It comes with some kind of adhesive bits (I haven’t opened the little packets yet to investigate). I’m looking for a suitable piece of wood or something to stick it to, because I want to be able to move it around. Anyhow, I’m not sure the included “sticky” will be strong enough or what base I can make will be heavy enough for a big girl like Daphne. She’s strong.
Anyhow, I hope you have a relaxing evening, and a great night. Hugs.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this! I have 4 cats, three I rescued and the other never left my side after I found her on the road a few winters ago. I’ve always loved animals and kept a plethora of supplies for them. Last week I went through everything in my basement and it either went in the dumpster rental Phoenix AZ, donated, and I did end up keeping a few things. I think I need to get them costumes this year!

  3. Love them!! So cute!! We have two Maine Coon sisters (12 years now) and love the way they interact with each other. We should try and dress them up for Halloween!! Thanks for sharing!! Hope all is well!

  4. It is nice to include them in the post now and then. I and Sarah have always thought of having a dog, but we avoid because we commute and travel regularly. This means the dog will have no one to care for. So, at the moment, Omega and Alpha, the two strays in my neighborhood are the ones we care for. They are around in the neighborhood managing themselves and they come to us when we are either leaving or arriving. One downside of this is that we have to leave very quietly if we are dressed for a party. Both these boys have ruined our dresses at multiple occassions as they pounce on us for some love.

  5. Very cute photos and dialogue. And the nod to Bastet was a great inclusion! I like your idea of wine corks in the tissue box. I’ll try to remember to put that together for my two cats — then see what they think of it 🙂

    1. Hi Dave. I couldn’t resist the nod to Bastet. 🐱 They both like to chase wine corks because they bounce in unexpected directions, and sometimes spin. Unfortunately, they tend to end up under the piano. Velma likes playing with them in the box, but Daphne… not so much. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs.

  6. I already love these two totally kool kats. You really captured the conversation and curiosity of cats in general. I could see them checking out the yellow spikey ghoul ready in an instant to spring ten feet straight up in the air and take off leaving a cat tornado trail behind them.

    1. Ha! That’s a great description, Daniel. It’s funny. Velma is the bolder of the two, but she gets spooked so easily. You should have seen her the day she met the hand-held vacuum cleaner. She would not stop slapping the hose. Thanks for joining us. Hugs.

      1. LOL! 😂 Cats are endless entertainment. I had a cat, an Irish Setter, and a Mina bird that could call both of them to come eat. When the bird was out of the cage, it like to ride on the dogs back and yell giddy up! It was hilarious.

  7. Cats forever entertain! Wonderful post, Teagan. We don’t have cats right now – it’s an allergy thing. But our neighbors do, and these hunters love our backyard – and we love them. 😻

    1. I’ve known people with intense cat allergies. Being allergic to nearly EVERYTHING, I’m allergic to cats too, but not to the degree of some people. Over the years, whenever I’ve added a cat, I’ve had flu-like allergy symptoms for 4-6 weeks, and I finally adapt. But that does have a limit. During one time I had 3 cats and that was manageable, but just barely. These days, I’m not sure I could handle 3 again. Anyhow, thanks for visiting. Hugs.

  8. They are so cute! Great Haloween costumes. I have to attempt putting on the batwings and Dracula cape soon on mine. What a great setup for sleeping, too. Wine corks look like a fun chase, here it’s hair ties. Xo

    1. Ha! Only CGI version of Daphne and Velma would wear a costume. I wish you luck and long thick gloves, Denise. 🐱
I put a handful of wine corks in an empty tissue box. Velma was nuts for it. Hair ties — I guard mine with my life. Daphne is certain they all belong to her. Their current favorite is Whack-A-Straw — me swiping a long bendy straw around under a large piece of brown packing paper, and letting the “head” of the straw pop up through holes in the paper. Thanks for joining us. Hugs.

      1. My black kitties will let me, but not my tiger stripped, put on costumes. That sounds fun in a tissue box. Luna loves to hide hair ties and waits for us to find them. Whack-A-Straw could be entertaining for my crew, too. Hugs back, xo

  9. I never cared for Scooby Doo, but Velma and Daphne have changed my mind. Maybe if all the SD characters had been cats…. #4 Daughter’s cat Freyja agrees about love bites, although she sometimes draws blood!

    1. I would have been all-in for a cat version of that show! I wanted to name the kittens for a famous duo, particularly a detective pair. Eventually I landed on two of the Scooby Doo characters. It ended up suiting their personalities well. Freyja is a great name for a cat. Hugs.

  10. It’s lovely to see Velma and Daphne and hear what they’re up to. They’re a right pair! I’m sure you’ll have fun for Halloween with the two of them trying to outdo each other. Take care and I hope you can get some work done (the Scoobies permitting, of course)! Big hugs! ♥

    1. Oh, thanks. Way back, the first time I moved to New Mexico, at first I was on a contract downtown for PNM. One day during lunch I visited Skip Maisel’s. It was the first time I had seen that kind of drum. It actually has a nice tone, but I don’t play it. Anyhow it moved to DC with me, and eventually back to New Mexico. Hugs to you and Laurie.

  11. Now that I have calmed down from laughing at the Scoobies in their Hallowe’en costumes, thank you for the fun post, Teagan.

Also, thanks for the Oct. 27th reminder. I don’t want to miss that!

    H🎃GS!

    1. LOL, yes, they excel in personality, Liz. Oh, that’s just a folding cart that I made into a window seat for cats. They’ve yet to notice the lower shelf. 🐱 It works out well enough that I put one under the bedroom window too. Thanks for visiting with us. Hugs.
