Welcome, everyone.  Recently, when Dan Antion told me the title of the book he was writing, I was intrigued.  “A Bridge to Nowhere” — who wouldn’t be?

Since I’m just not wired right, I had a tsunami of competing thoughts immediately.  Riding in on some of those waves were my favorite songs about bridges.  I’ve always loved “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” In fact, it’s one of my favorite karaoke singalongs.  However, “Seven Bridges Road” by the Eagles is at the top of my list.  I love those harmonies.  The title link has the full song.  The video below is the Eagles doing just the intro before a show. It’s fun to see them sing it spontaneously. Intricate harmony is not easy, but they make it seem so.

As you’ve figured out, my bridges are leading you to Dan Antion’s new book, just published this week.
Here’s what Amazon has to say:

Pittsburgh reporter Rachael Todd has a hard deadline — and it’s personal. Her friend is a murder suspect. He knew the victim. He had a strong motive and a weak alibi. Rachael’s certain he is being framed, and she’ll have to live up to her nickname “Rascal” to clear him. Rascal sees a connection to an earlier crime. The clock is ticking as she digs through multiple layers of legal and bureaucratic misdeeds, crimes, and evidence that the police ignored.

Is a crime solved when the criminals are identified, or only after they are brought to justice? This is a mystery born from that question. The story includes many twists and turns, even after the crime is solved. It features characters, including the bad guys, that grow in ways that might surprise you, and well-researched circumstances that will take you from delight to frustration while moving you close to the edge of your seat—sound interesting? If it does, this book is for you.

My thoughts on Bridge to Nowhere

Bridge to Nowhere is a bridge to intrigue.  It definitely does not go “nowhere.”

Rascal/Rachael Todd is a delightful protagonist.  We root for this young reporter to get to the bottom of this mystery — and hope that she doesn’t end up with the whole thing falling down around her ears.

“Rachael focused on the questionable, rapid demolition of the building in her, and her research that debunked the notion that the homeless had been using natural gas as a heat source. She pointed out the desire of the fire captain to investigate, as well as the desire of the contractor to go ahead with the project.  Rachael mentioned the well-camouflaged ownership and alluded to the plans for the building and ended with a quote from Winston Longhand emphasizing public safety. She printed her draft for Bernie.”

I smell trouble.  Rascal… don’t go walking under any ladders now, ya hear?  This does not seem like the time to push your luck.

I’d call it a mystery despite whatever precise definitions of that term any purists might have.  The Bridge to Nowhere doesn’t go to a single specific sub-genre.  It does, however, go to characters, places, and circumstances that readers will be glad they visited.

  1. Awesome intro, Teagan, for Dan’s book. Your creativity is boundless. Glad to know the book is a standalone. But, with known characters. It sounds intriguing. Lots of good luck on this one, Dan. 📚🎶 Christine

    1. On more than one occasion, Tim, the City of Pittsburgh forgot to buy the land at one end of a bridge they were building. One crime in this story takes place under one of them.

      Teagan’s introduction is wonderful.

  3. Teagan, “Thank you!” doesn’t go nearly far enough. This is a wonderful introduction, and you snagged one of my favorite bridges and songs I always enjoy (I loved the Eagles). Bridge Over Troubled Water, is a good companion to this story, and a classic song from my youth.

You put a huge smile on my face this morning. I hope you have a great day

  4. What a captivating introduction of this new book! The story itself starts interesting, but your review makes it one tick more unique. Thanks for sharing the information, Teagan. Just the book you will need on the beach. Although it’s only a carp pond amidst meadows here. Lol. The story will lead into a better surrounding. Best wishes, Michael
