Sir Chocolate and the Chinese Candy Dragon: Robbie Cheadle

Saturday, October 21, 2023

Imagine a room made of chocolate — that’s what my (bl0g) sanctuary is today. Don’t worry, imaginary chocolate has no calories.  Plus, if you eat a wall from a chocolate house, the roof won’t cave in.  If you eat a chocolate leg from a chaise lounge, you won’t land in the floor.

Why all these whimsical chocolaty thoughts?  I’m honoring creative dynamo and prolific author, Robbie Cheadle.  She has just released a new children’s book for Halloween AND she has a short story in a newly released anthology.

Here’s a video from Robbie showcasing the latest book from her and son Michael.

She also writes grownup books and stories, using her full name, Roberta Eaton Cheadle.  Under that name, Robbie has been a contributor to multiple anthologies of poetry and short stories.  The most recent of those just came out.

If you aren’t familiar with Robbie’s writing, Teri Polen has a fun interview with her at Bad Moon Rising.  See that post here.

As if holding a full-time job in the business world, writing children’s books and stories for adults, creating book video trailers, posting African wildlife videos, baking and making fondant creatures wasn’t enough, Robbie has recently become quite a good artist.  She particularly excels with giraffes.

Those who have been reading comments (here or at posts from Teri or Robbie where they’ve featured my latest, A Peril in the Bayou, may have noticed that one of my “Scoobies” hasn’t been well. I’ve been in quite a state, because I couldn’t get a vet appointment. (By the way, what city has the most cat vets? Now, I want to move there.) Thankfully, Daphne is feeling better.  She isn’t quite 100%, but she’s getting there.  Velma is better too, as she was worried about her sister.

Thanks for visiting.  I hope you’ll follow some links and get better acquainted with Roberta Eaton Cheadle.  Happy weekend.  Hugs from the Scoobies and me.

  1. What a wonderful post featuring Robbie, Teagan. I love her book trailer, and I will always wonder when she sleeps. 🙂 She’s talented already, but her paintings are stunning! Congrats to Robbie on her book and story, and to you on your novella. ❤️🎃👻🕷️

    1. Thanks, Tandy — I agree completely. When that happened to me previously, the excuse was COVID. Those requirements aren’t in play now. It’s just inexcusable. They offer a few emergency appointments — basically if the animal is at death’s door. They said mine wasn’t an emergency.
Thankfully Daphne is basically over all the sneezing. (It was a LOT, and she clearly felt bad.) I was worried there was a virus involved, or that it would keep going and become an infection. (Her sister, Velma didn’t react to it.)
When it started on that Saturday, I was cleaning a place behind the television that I can’t reach. Coincidentally, my air purifier went bad. (Yes, I tested it and changed the filter.) I didn’t realize it for a day, but I’m sure it was spewing microscopic particles that I couldn’t detect. That Monday, I could smell something wrong coming from the machine. It wasn’t a bad odor, but an odd powdery smell. That made me remember having one I kept at work that went bad with a similar odor — and then filled the office with a thick white cloud of particles…
Thankfully Daphne has only sneezed once today. She’s eating well and playing. Meanwhile I’m wishing I could move to whatever city has the most vets per cat. Heartfelt thanks for thinking of my “Scoobies.” Big hugs.

  2. I loved Robbie’s latest Sir Chocolate and her post! So happy to hear there is improvement on the kitty front. We had same issue getting into vet we had for years. Finally switched. Still a wait but in ER situations they find a way to get you in. Hugs xo

    1. Thanks, Denise. Unfortunately, that problem applies to all the vets here. This is the one I was going to switch *to*. They have a procedure for ER cases, but said mine wasn’t an emergency. You have to wait until the animal is at death’s door. Heaven help me, this was supposed to be my “last stand” but I need to move again.
Thanks for supporting Robbie. Hugs winging back to you.

      1. That’s horrible, Teagan. I’ve been hearing around our town, corporations are buying out local owners, and the prices are so over the top now at many places. At night or weekends we have to drive an hour for er visits for them. I hope you don’t have to move too and find a good vet, perhaps mobile, still left. Sending huge hugs.

  3. Robbie is amazing. She is so talented and productive. Congatulations to her on your feature, Teagan. I’m glad Daphene feels better. I can’t imagine not being able to get an appointment. That would drive me nuts.

  4. I’m glad the kitty-girls are doing better. It’s interesting that they care about each other. Our girls (sisters) never seemed to care much about the other one. I have been in awe of Robbie’s talents since I first learned about her (I think that was through this blog). She’s a remarkable woman and I wish her the best.

    1. I agree about Robbie. Thanks for your good words.
Velma & Daphne are not inseparable, and they play rough. But Velma clearly knew that Daphne wasn’t feeling well. A medical-grade air purifier arrived just now. It should help all of us (since my asthma has been notably worse this year). Although it’s twice as big as I expected. Now I need to rearrange the furniture. The work of this episode never ends. :/ Hugs.

  5. Hello, Teagan, I am so happy that both your cat babies are doing better. It’s such a worry when our pets are sick. Thank you so much for this wonderful post. I am bowled over by your generosity. I’m off to show it to Michael who will be thrilled too 🤗🩵🦋

  6. Robbie has such talent in everything she does! I love the video to promote her newest book and the music is fabulous. It sounds perfect for this time of the year, and the new collection of stories as well. Thanks for sharing, Teagan, and I’m pleased to hear Daphne is better. I hope she’s back to her usual self soon. Do take care, Teagan and big hugs!
