Welcome everyone. Today I’m lucky enough to combine two things that I enjoy — supporting indie authors, and the Thursday Doors Challenge. I’m happy to say the author in question today is Dan Antion, host of Thursday Doors.
Do you like a realistically paced thriller? Do you identify with a plethora of characters? What about some organized crime thrown into it? Can you resist a crazy kitten named Bonkers? If I still don’t have your attention, it’s a Doors devotee’s delight!
Yes, Dan Antion, keeper of the #ThursdayDoors blog challenge has just released a fourth installment in his Dreamer’s Alliance series, Secrets Held Against Evil. I won’t go into detail, but you can click over to Dan’s announcement post.
Like I said, this book is a Doors devotee’s delight, I’ve collected some doors that made me think of the book.
In between the doors, I’m including a mini interview, where I asked Dan two questions about the book.
Vehicle Doors
…The rear window exploded in a shower of glass pellets. The driver either ducked, or fell, or was hit. Cynthia didn’t know or care…. Cynthia heard a single shot, and the screaming stopped.
Office Doors
…Sandy McGuire, Slocum’s secretary, knocked on his office door. “Sir, there’s a reporter on the phone from the Courier-Reformer. She would like to schedule a meeting with you. I tried to tell her you’re busy, but she’s a persistent young woman…
Newspaper Building Doors
…A bell attached to the front door to The Chartiers Station News building rang as Rachel opened it. The office looked like it hadn’t changed in a hundred years…
Teagan: What was one of your favorite scenes in this book?
Dan: Rascal Todd goes on a ride-along with Officer Cynthia Leman. The two women get to know each other. Rascal observes a warm and compassionate moment. After that, they have some friendly conversation, but a little of the underlying concern seeps in. Then things go a little sideways. It’s the scene that inspired the cover of the book.
Teagan: What was your inspiration for that scene?
Dan: This entire series has been about the fact that good and evil exist on a spectrum and both exist in all of us. I wanted to bring that out in a way that (hopefully) the reader can recognize. I also wanted to highlight the two strong women that are the stars of this book and illustrate how nothing is as it appears.
Doors of Intrigue
… Uncle Mike is on his way. Grab something to prevent leaving fingerprints. Open the door. Leave the office and close the door. There’s a set of stairs in the back. Go to the bottom. There’s an exit door there. Stay inside that door…
Courtroom Doors
… “Well, that’s better than him thinking I was taking bribes from a gangster.”
The bailiff opened the doors and instructed observers to sit on the right side or in the back rows. He asked the witness to sit in the front…
That’s my tour of the doors that Dan’s book inspired me to use. I hope you enjoyed it. Don’t miss Secrets Held Against Evil. Here are Dan’s links:

Thank you for the information on Dan Antion’s new book, which sounds a great follow up. From all the shown door i love the country courthouse door. 😉 Best wishes, Michael

I agree about that courthouse door too. I couldn’t believe it was in Arizona with all that Art Deco work. Maybe I need to learn more about Arizona during that era. Hugs.

Teagan, I’m happy to see you involved with other writers, I know writers but have never worked on a project with them except once when I co-wrote a book. He proposed we do that and I said, “Okay let’s co-write it. I’ll write the nouns and verbs and you write adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions,”

Thanks for the chuckle on a dreary Monday morning, David. Teagan has been so helpful to me while I’ve been on this writing journey. I really couldn’t ask for a better mentor. Working with her has been a pleasure, as well.

Dan, my week is officially made. Thank you.

Haha! That sounds like a good division of labor, David. The story Dan and I did was really short. Before I got “the way I am now” (before all the PTSD/anxiety grew to something unmanageable) I did several short collaborations with other authors. It’s a credit to Dan that he was able to put up with me for that short story. Have a wonderful week. Hugs.

I tried and leave a message from my not-so-distant location, but I didn’t think I had managed, so I’ll try again now I’m back to my computer. Congratulations to Dan. Great news for all of his fans. And a very enticing interview, Teagan. And love the doors as well. Best of luck to Dan!

This sounds like another intriguing book. Perhaps more intriguing with the 2 female leads.
Teagan, you have combined the book and the doors most creatively.
You have created a door to Dan’s book.

Out of all the doors I gathered for the trailer, I didn’t even think to get a picture of a newspaper office. Ironically, I drive by one at least once a week. Teagan made great choices.

I admit that I had to opt for types of doors that I felt I could find without spending several days looking. I’m relieved that it turned out well. I wanted present-day photos, but I couldn’t resist that one.

That’s great. Lots of modern businesses sit respectfully in old buildings. Since Rascal will be a continuing character, I need to find some photos of where she works.
