Wednesday Writing — #Halloween Cover Reveal

Wednesday, September 28, 2022

This is a short post, because I’m busy writing.  About six weeks ago I started a story for Halloween.  I wasn’t sure it would be long enough to publish, so I felt sure I would finish it quickly.  I wanted to present it by October 1st with plenty of reading time for those in the Halloween mood.  Silly me…  The story kept growing. As if I needed to worry about it being long enough. (Eye roll)  However, I still think I’ll have it ready pretty soon.  Here’s the cover.

More on the story later.  Also, on October 19th, I’ll visit Teri Polen to talk about this novella.  It’s part of her yearly October blog festival, Bad Moon Rising.  She’ll host a different author each day, asking us fun questions.  Don’t miss it.

Of course, I used my “Author Tool Chest” slang dictionaries.

  1. From all the comments, I can see that everyone is looking forward to your Halloween story! I am, as well! ! It is also Thanksgiving and, before we know it, it will be Christmas. Love your cover, and am looking forward to your next story. You are a great writer! !

    1. I’ve been trying to add little details to it today, to help make the settings “real.” A Turkish coffee set with silver filigree, napkins matching gingham curtains in a diner, smooth polished wood seats in the streetcar. Little things.
Thanks for spending so much time with me today, Ms. Frances — and for this lovely comment. Have a pleasant night. Hugs on the wing.

    1. Thanks very much, Staci. It really is hard for me to scale ideas down. I’ve been doing short stories on the weekend — partly as an exercise to myself for making things short. LOL, this one was scaled down enough to be a *long* short story. The idea didn’t change, but everything else kept growing. o_O Thanks for visiting. Hugs on the wing.

    1. Huge thanks, Noelle. I worked hard on this one. Toning down the lightning (without doing anything to change the rest of the background… The model was a vintage black and white photo. Changing her gown was not too hard (just tedious), but giving her any sort of skin-tone was a lot of work. Hugs on the wing.

        1. I blush. ^^’ Thank you. I was doing “Designed & Ready” covers for others. But custom covers are more than I can cope with. Then earlier this year, I couldn’t even cope with selling my Designed & Ready line. Although I’m hoping to get back into the swing of it soon. In other words, I don’t advertise. I’ve done Jacquie Biggar’s latest, and several for Robbie Cheadle, also Stevie Turner. Of course, doing 14 of my own for Dead of Winter kept me busy.
Some of my designs are still in one of my FaceBook albums. This is not a sales pitch, LOL. I’m just sharing.

    1. 😀 I’m glad to hear that Judi. It’s good to see you. Hmmm… you’ve given me an idea. Maybe I’ll dig up my old Halloween posts to use through October. I haven’t done any in recent years, so maybe people won’t remember them.
Have a good rest of the week. Hugs on the wing.

    1. Many thanks, Liz. Sometimes the title is just right there, with the first words of a story. At other times, it’s a monumental struggle. This one fell into the later category. I don’t think I’ve ever worked as hard for a title. So I really appreciate this feedback. Hugs on the wing.

    1. Robbie, I thank you — When you started posting about your Haunted Halloween Holiday book it reminded me that if I wanted to do a Halloween story, I’d better get going. I’ve been meaning to do a short story for several years, but don’t think in time. Maybe that’s why this one kept growing longer — because it had been so long since I did something for the holiday. LOL.

      Hugs on the wing.
