Announcing the November issue of Dead of Winter!

Thanks for your patience this month.  Allow me to present the latest novelette in Dead of Winter — Journey 11, the Sumelazon Escarpment  I know you’re wondering how many installments are left.  Don’t hold me to it, but I think there will be two more Journeys.  Lucky 13 — I always insisted that 13 is a lucky number.

Insider Notes

Though she went across continents in moments, Emlyn is out in her wide world.  The twelve-year-old sees and experiences places, customs, and foods that are beyond her expectations.  One custom is so foreign that she thinks, “It’s like a dance.”

She’s in for another new experience — the art of deception.  Trust and betrayal were themes in the previous Journey.  In Journey 11, the theme may be deception, or perhaps a better word is illusion.

In Dead of Winter, I use details like household items or architectural details to evoke richer depictions without writing multiple pages to describe a new location.  In this novelette I gave particular attention to the characters’ clothing to achieve that result.

The Blurb

Meet a new character in this Journey of Dead of Winter.  She is a Deae Matres whose encounter with Gethin Gwilym has an unexpected result.  Next in Pergesca, we get better acquainted with a noblewoman or a “HaDritak,” who is an old friend of Zasha.  She has a few tricks up her sleeves.

Emlyn sees and experiences places, customs, and foods that are foreign to her.  One of her gifts is growing.

As the conclusion of Emlyn’s “Journeys” draws near, we see that our heroes are underdogs.  They are out-manned, “out-spirited,” and under-powered — physically, magically, and politically.  With no other recourse, they make use of deception and manipulation.  Although, how can that possibly be enough?

  1. A beautiful cover, Teagan, and great tease. I still haven’t read #10, so will probably read these back to back. You’re doing great, and congrats on nearing the end. When all is done, I’d love to hear what you thought of your “writer’s journey. I could even interview you! Happy Sunday, my friend. Hugs.

  2. Your covers are always 100 percent, but I think this one is 110 percent. It is good to get acquainted with Emlyn. Thank you for all of the time you dedicate to your stories and all of the new ones. You present all so very well! !

    1. Thanks so much, Ms. Frances. I had done one months and months ago, using the background I created for this one. When it finally came time for the building in the background, the rest didn’t fit. This one was a lot of thought and work, so I’m very happy you like it. Stay happy and sassy. Hugs on the wing!

        1. The next cover is going to be difficult… I’m not sure what I should try to convey with it. Having the cover ready early in the editing of the Journey helps me with edits and any new material. But with Journey 11, and the next, I don’t have it. I’m happy to hear the one for 11 turned out well. 🙂

  3. Reblogged this on Just Olga and commented:
Teagan Geneviene’s serial Dead of Winter has reached Journey 11. We’re close to the end now, so you shouldn’t miss it, and if you haven’t read the rest of the journeys yet, come on! They will be perfect for the holiday season!

  4. Congratulations, Teagan! I wonder if I’ll be able to wait and read and review the rest of the story in one go… It all sounds so intriguing, though. I’ll have to see how I feel, but I’m off to get it anyway, just in case! Thanks for offering us a place on this journey through wondrous and magical places and events. Stay safe and big hugs!

    1. Olga, you are a wonderful support. This one is not one of the longer Journeys, but you read so quickly anyway. I’m not sure what way would please you best. This one has a lot of setup for the ending. I don’t know if that helps your thoughts. Be well, be happy. Hugs on the wing!
