Hi, everyone. I’m Teagan Ríordáin Geneviene. Firstly, Teri, thanks for letting me be a part of Bad Moon Rising, 2019! I know you sort of stretch the limits of the theme to let me participate, but this year I have a “Twilight Zone-ish” novella to share.
Teri asked some fabulous, whimsical questions, and here they are!
Fun Questions – This year we’re playing Would You Rather
Whatever you choose, give a reason for your answer.
Would you rather walk through a haunted graveyard at midnight or spend the night in a haunted, abandoned house?
Both sound like my warped idea of fun. There’s a dark and mysterious figure in Brother Love – a Crossroad. He sits on tombstones, playing blues songs on his guitar. So, I’ll choose the graveyard, maybe he’ll let me sing along. As he says, “Ain’t nobody here gonna complain about the noise.”
Would you rather boogie down to Monster Mash or get your groove on to Thriller?
Ha! I’m not coordinated enough for Thriller, not to mention the fact that my back would probably get stuck in some very awkward position. Play the Monster Mash for me, Teri.
Besides, even though the featured novella was inspired by a Neil Diamond song from a later time, there’s some fun 50s music in Brother Love — a Crossroad. I had fun with the old song “Love Potion No. Nine” naming streets and even a character for the streets and people mentioned in that song.
Would you rather be locked in a haunted insane asylum or lost in the woods with a killer on the loose?
You mean the door isn’t locked? And there’s no serial killer lurking in the alley where the trash cans are? Hmmm…

Writing Questions (choose 3)
If you had the opportunity to live anywhere in the world for a year while writing a book that took place in the same setting, where would you choose?
I’m actually very close to that right now. I relocated from Washington, DC to a very small city in the “high desert” Southwest (USA) this spring. Years ago, I started (barely) a story that I meant to be a three or four volume series. The setting for the story is here – or rather fictional area in the state of New Mexico. Sigh… there are so many stories I want to tell. I need to live to be 120 years old.
What is your favorite cover of all your books? Why?
Ugh! I can’t seem to choose. “The Skull of the Alchemist” is probably my favorite. (Book awaiting rewrite.) However, I was very happy with this one for Brother Love, because I was able to combine so many elements of the story without it seeming “busy.” Thanks to fellow blogger, Dan Antion for letting me use his photo of a hymnal page as the background. Dan also provided photo illustrations for the story when it was a blog serial.
I make all my own covers and promotional images, and love the work. (If anyone is interested, I’m exploring the prospect of doing that for others.)
How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
As I’ve already alluded to this, I guess I should choose this question. Let’s see… Notes and plans for the third book in the Atonement series. It will explore backstories for characters, including Teri’s favorite, Lilith the calico cat. I mentioned The Skull of the Alchemist, that’s book-2 for my fictionalized Cornelis Drebbel. In the where-would-you-live question, I meant the series (started, if barely) that begins with Tatterdemallian the Electric Zucchini, an urban fantasy/steampunk mashup. There’s also The Guitar Mancer, an urban fantasy. And… I’ll finish this answer by taking the liberty of using an extra question ― next.
What are you working on now?
I recently did a double cover reveal for two books I hope to launch soon. Click here. This includes the third of my 1920s mystery books about Pip and her friends, A Ghost in the Kitchen. Also my first non-fiction book – a dictionary of Roaring Twenties slang, Speak Flapper.
Oh, I’m also in the middle of a #Steampunk serial on my blog, Teagan’s Books. It’s called The Delta Pearl. This is actually a rewrite of yet another novel that was waiting on the shelf for publication. It’s a Victorian looking mystery set on a magical riverboat.
