Hello, all. It’s no longer a secret… Winter is coming — Again. For years, I’ve wanted to combine the entire series “Dead of Winter” into one volume. When current events made my story even more relevant, I had to do it.
When I started writing this epic back in 2010, a couple of people asked me if it was like “The Handmaid’s Tale.” I’m a little embarrassed to say that back then, I didn’t know any more about that book than its title — and I only knew Margaret Atwood by name.
The two stories do share a theme of oppression based on gender. That’s actually goes to my above remark about Dead of Winter being even more relevant today than it was when I wrote it.
Short Description
Twelve-year-old Emlyn Eriu escapes the religious and gender persecution of her country, only to learn that the fate of the Living World rests on her shoulders. The fanatic Brethren think she’s a threat, an abomination. Why? Aside from being a girl, Emlyn has a talent — she can see and communicate with ghosts.
The Veil separating the Realm of the Dead from the living world is torn. No living thing can survive in the ghostly world — and it’s spreading. The dead begin to return and wreak havoc among the living. Emlyn meets learned women from a select society. Together, they are the world’s only hope.

As you may have gathered with my last post, I’ve been toying with animation. So far, I’ve only done six-second segments. I’ve used some of the mini-animations and made a new book trailer video (not the short funny promo from the weekend).
I forgot to mention…
There is also a virtual voice audio book.
The technology has gotten very realistic. I was pleased with the result.
It can be purchased separately, or with the purchase of the e-book,
the audiobook can be added for $1.99, for 33 hours of listening pleasure.
The 10th Anniversary of Teri Polen‘s
Bad Moon Rising book festival begins today!

Happy October! Horror and suspense fans can be doubly happy, because it’s also the start of a month filled with great books! It’s the tenth anniversary of Bad Moon Rising. Each day, Teri Polen, at Books and Such will host a different author with a book that’s related to suspense, supernatural, or horror. Teri interviews each author with a varied collection of fun questions. Check it out each day — it’s fun to compare the different answers from the various authors.
On October 6, 2025, I’ll be there, featuring the Dead of Winter Omnibus: All the Journeys.
I’ll be giving away a free ebook there.

Questions about Dead of Winter are welcome. I haven’t had time to do a proper promotional, descriptive post about the book, and I realize that many of you weren’t here during the year when I published monthly novellas (Journeys) for the series on Amazon. So feel free to ask. Friendly comments are welcome. Thanks for visiting. Hugs!

You are amazing, Teagan. What a huge amount of work to get the omnibus together, and to get the whole thing on audiobook. Your new trailer is fantastic. You never cease to amaze me with your talent.

The virtual voice book sounds interesting. I’ve listened to two books like that and they’ve been great.

Hi, Robbie. I was pleasantly surprised (actually very surprised) by how well the voice did. There are only occasional small spots where it does not sound natural. I find it a lot better than the voice my Kindle uses for the read to me option (on non audiobooks), and worlds better than the voice on Word or PDFs. Thanks for visiting. Hugs.

Hi Teagan, I use Alexa to read to me, and I am used to her, so she doesn’t bother me. I must find the time to convert A Ghost and His Gold to an audio book.

With the one Amazon/KDP uses, the conversion can be as quick or as complicated as you want to make it, Robbie. (If they’re offering it in your country now.) If you’re feeling meticulous about the details, the system will let you edit every page or every occurrence of a particular name, etc. If you’re feeling relaxed about pauses and pronunciations, you can do the entire thing with just a couple of clicks. I’ve learned to just pick the character/place names that I feel strongly about being pronounced a certain way, because it really does a good job. In other words, I encourage you to give it a try.

Thank you. Teagan. I saw it come up on my KDP. I will certainly look into it.

Brilliant Teagan. I am ready to visit the learned ladies again and the men who respect them. 💞

Thanks, Pat. Actually I just updated the post to include info for the audio book. Can I be snarky and jaded and say “Male respect — that’s how you know it’s a fantasy.” Thanks very much — and thanks for your support with the series years ago. Hugs.

Fabulous, I hope you’ll do a reblog or reminder on the Teri Polen interview! This is an uber busy month, because the weather is so great. I’ll be out walking a lot, so things pile up, and I get behind.
Your animations are wonderful, Teagan.
I wish you all the success in the world with this Epic Journey in one book!
Sending epic amount of hugs! (the Scoobies can have a few!)

I’m envious of your autumn weather and changing leaves. Let chores slide and enjoy this too-brief season. Thanks for your good wishes.

Teagan, this is such exciting news! Dead of Winter years ago is brilliant. To see it now gathered into one volume feels like a true celebration of your vision. What amazes me even more is how you’ve brought it to life visually — the AI videos you’ve created flow with the spirit of the story and give it another dimension. It feels as if the words themselves are moving across the screen. Congratulations on this incredible achievement — I can’t wait to step back into that world again.

What a wonderful comment, Rebecca — thank you. I’m happy you enjoyed the videos. Many thanks for your support of the series years ago too. Even with 20 years of technical editing and writing (and some very large government documents), this was the biggest *formatting* project I’ve ever done. LOL, whenever I think about it my elbow hurts from stress on the carpal tunnel.

Teagan, I can only imagine the dedication and sheer effort that went into bringing this omnibus together — your persistence shines through every page (and every video!). It’s incredible how your background in technical editing prepared you for such a monumental project. I’m delighted to walk alongside your journey again. Sending hugs on speedy wings to you and the Scoobies!!!

Liz you’re so kind. Maybe it’s like communicating with different types of people… (my main function even though I was a “technical editor and writer”). The prompts are a lot like figuring out someone’s language (even though we’re both speaking English).

The book trailer is fabulous, and the news are doubly good. I had forgotten about Teri’s Bad Moon Rising this month, so that’s something else to look forward to.
Having read the book in installments, I think you’re right. It seems more relevant than ever.
Good luck, Teagan, with the Omnibus version, big hugs and love to the Scoobies!
