Unexpected Creature of Fantasies collage by Kerfe 2025
Collage by Kerfe 2025

Hello all.   It’s Caturday, and the Scoobies have taken over this post.

Hi, Velma.  The sofa back isn’t one of your usual perches.  What’s going on?  A minute ago, you were staring at the fabulous collage Kerfe made.  You seemed to be looking at the cat in it.

Velma:  What do you mean, Yummy Human? That cat IS me.  Kerfe inspired me.  I’m getting my inner goddess centered.  This isn’t a sofa top, it’s a mountaintop.  Just like in the song.

Goddesses on a sofa-top
Eyes burning twin green flames
The high-perch of beauty and love
And Velma was her name

Daphne:  What? No!  Daphne was her name!

Velma:  Alright miss Diva Daphne, if you want to be a goddess then you’ve got to get up and sing with me.

Together:  We’ve got it
Yeow baby we’ve got it
Well, I’m your Bastet
Your ginger fire
Fe-line desire.

Her weapons are her gold-green eyes
Making the Fed-Ex man mad
Ginger as a cookie she was
A meow like no one else had
Yeeeeooow!

We’ve got it
Yeow baby we’ve got it
Well, we’re your Bastet
Your ginger fire
Fe-line desire.

Yeow, we’re your Bastet
Your ginger fire
Catnip desire.

Robert H G Van Leeuwen of the band Shocking Blue wrote Venus for the 1969 hit. It was fun to watch their videos, but the video above from Bananarama suited the Scoobies better.

    1. Old sleepy kitties are the greatest treasures of all.
Thanks about the cover, Jan. I wanted to keep all of my “Speak” books similar, but the background I had been using was just too busy to have a combination of flowers and fans. So I went with basic black. I appreciate the feedback. Hugs.

  1. I love the parody lyrics and kitty performance. I like the original version of Venus by Shocking Blue. I was 11 or 12 years old when I first heard it, and it bowled me over.

    1. I’m the same way about Shocking Blue. As a point of curiosity, it was a long time before I realized the lead voice was a woman. But the video with Bananarama jumping around fit the cats. I hope it’s a good Caturday there. The weatherman keeps saying we’ll get a bunch of rain… and we haven’t. But happily it’s cooler today, even if it isn’t supposed to stay that way, it’s a relief. Hugs.

      1. The State Fair started on Thursday, and it has brought rain like it normally does. We got rain Thursday, Friday, and we are having a thunderstorm right now. Rain is the only thing I like about the state fair.

  2. Fabulous version of the song, Teagan! Daphne and Velma embody the parts beautifully. And I agree with you on the Bananarama version. Fantastic! Oh, and I’m having a great time discovering new things about flowers and fans with Speak Flowers and Fans! Thanks for cheering up my Saturday! Big hugs and love to the goddesses! Oh, and what a fantastic collage by Kerfe!
