Whatnot Wednesday

Special thanks to author Teri Polen for reading A Peril in the Vines and mentioning it in her post this morning!

Whatnot with the Scoobies

Velma (foreground) & Daphne argue

Velma: Don’t get me started, Daphne.  Jinkies!  The one with the goat is best.  Agree with me or else!

DaphneJeepers!  Where’s your species pride?  The one with the two gray tabby cats is best.  Although it would be better if they were gingers…  And I’m not going to agree with you.  I’ll use my laser eyes if you jump on me again!

Velma:  Lucky for us, the most explicit pictures were too blurry for Yummy Human to post.

Hello, all.  Thanks to everyone last week for helping me choose the three “door inspiration” images I submitted to Dan Antion‘s Thursday Doors Writing Challenge.  Everyone’s images will become “prompts” for writers, poets, and other creatives to use for the writing phase of the challenge in May.  You can get all the information for participating in the challenge straight from Dan if you click here.

Thursday Doors Selections

There wasn’t an official vote, so the viewer favorites are not in “voting” order. However, the top three were a very close call, so it really doesn’t matter.  Also, since Dan says that if there are a lot of images submitted, he will cut the number we can submit from three to two.  We were to submit them in the order of our preference.   Velma will be pleased.  So will Robbie Cheadle.

D:  “Goat Jumping from Roof.”  When I found a colorful photo of a Santa Fe house, which was deliberately positioned askew, I was captivated.  The world had tilted sideways.  (How appropriate for this year.)  I wanted to have someone hanging onto that wall by their fingertips, but that wasn’t working out.  Suddenly I knew that some animal needed to be jumping from either the wall or the roof.  What more likely culprit than a goat?  Next, I added a “pastel sketch” filter to both.  Then I emphasized the line of the wall (which disappeared when I applied the filter).

A:  “2 Blues, 2 Red Ristras.”  This is a revision of the image I showed last week.  I had added a cat and a tweaked the doors, but it just didn’t feel like enough to “make it my own.”   I changed the door-windows again, changed the porch light from the original photo, and added a second cat.

B:  “Camper Window to Doors of the Past.”  I loved the idea of this image, but despite doing a ton of work to make it, I wasn’t satisfied.  I’m still not happy with it.  However, it was so popular… and I didn’t ask for your opinions for no reason, so it’s included.

For the purpose of this post, I’m adding this fourth image as an honorable mention.  It’s the chapel of The Ice Hotel in Canada.  While it will not be part of the Thursday Doors Writing Challenge, if any of those of you who chose it as a favorite are inspired by it to write something — then you’re welcome to use it, as long as you link back to my blog and credit me.

I’m looking forward to seeing all the other images submitted as inspiration for the Thursday Doors Writing Challenge.  I hope you are too.  Friendly comments are welcome.  Thanks for opening this door.  Hugs!

  1. Yay, goat! My mother would have been so pleased — she was OBSESSED with goats! I bought her a little plastic one, and she kept it on top of her Folger’s coffee can. You know the Folger’s slogan: It’s mountain grown? I come by my goofy sense of humor honestly.

  2. Wonderful doors, Teagan. I’m particularly drawn to the camper image — ingenious. And, congratulations on your latest review. Bravo!

  3. Nice doors selection, Teagan.

Of course, now that I’ve sent my doors in, I found a bunch more.

Not exactly sure what I’m doing, but it’s the 2 doors for me!

Of course I haven’t seen the rest of the entries, but I’m already biased.

Pets for the Scoobies and meows from Misha! Hugs!!

  4. Last week’s post must have appeared on one of my recent “lost” days. I have to admit to also liking that grey camper one a lot. I always have a hard time choosing which photos to write about–which is a good thing–and I’m looking forward to seeing them all when Dan posts them. (K)

    1. I hear you about “lost days.” I think the overall unrelenting stress of the way things are overwhelms and floods out the inner-places where we have the days. That didn’t make a lot of sense, but I’m sticking with it. LOL.
If Dan cuts the number of doors, you are still welcome to use that one outside the Doors challenge. Hugs.

  5. I see your kitty girls are like my kitty girls with the fighting. Sophie slapped Chloe the other morning, and it was on! Two cats on their haunches slapping each other before I had coffee. Happy Wednesday, Teagan. ❤️

    1. LOL, what gave it away? Daphne’s “You’d better not!” expression, or the position of Velma’s ears along with her “I’m gonna touch you”-paw? 😀 My camera made them pause in that collie shangle, but they went back to it right away.
Have good rest of the week. Hugs.

  6. I loved them all, so I am happy with the results, and I hope the three images make it, as they are very inspiring, and it seems Dan has plans already for the third one. A great idea, and lovely to see Velma and Daphne. Thanks, Teagan, big hugs and love to the Scoobies.

        1. I figure one can’t know what else, besides a cat can come in by a cat/dog flap…
I’m sorry about the storm. We’re getting hit with yet another dust storm and 40-50 mph winds this afternoon. That’s the high-desert version of me commiserating. 🙂

          1. Exactly… I opened the patio door last summer to Biscuit our cat.. and failed to notice he had a present in his mouth, which he promptly deposited on the carpet on entering, And a mouse ran for its life across the floor, under the settee… .. Hubby had retired to bed.. So there I was with a long cane from the orchids I pulled out swishing under the settee.. To have the mouse run out under the chair, and then run out to under the table… Where by sad to say it met its destiny… As Biscuit pounced.. Needless to say… NO Catflaps 🙂 here lol…

I hope your storms subside Teagan… they are strong gusts and not nice with sand….
Wishing you a peaceful Happy Easter weekend Teagan… Take care.. ❤

  7. Thanks for the contribution, Teagan. I think I have plans for the camper image, so I hope I don’t have to cut back to two (I don’t think I will). I love the dialog between Daphne and Velma you speak cat very well 😉
