Video "Joy to the World" performed by Three Dog Night, 1971
Hello, all. To help us over the midweek hump, that’s a blast from the past (1971) with Three Dog Night.
Whatnot Wednesday
by Teagan via Night CafeWhen every other preteen girl in the USA had a crush on either Donny Osmond or Michael Jackson — or both, well… I had to be different. I always had to like something different from what everyone else wanted. In an odd way, I guess that brought me some joy. Instead of either teen idol, I chose Chuck Negron. It wasn’t that generous ‘stache. I’m not sure what it was that made him irresistible. Not even David Cassidy could break my crush on Chuck. That’s him singing lead on “Joy to the World.”
Cat Whatnots
Daphne adding to the WhatnotThis post is definitely “whatnot.” My thoughts are all over the place. Now Daphne’s long whiskers remind me of Chuck’s big old moustache… Daphne decided that my laptop was a place for her to sit and be admired, and my coffee mug suddenly became amazingly interesting. What the heck was I going to post about before she got into everything? Bullfrogs? Jeremiah? No… that’s not it. The cat — no, not the cat.Alexa’s Fotos at Pixabay (There are windows. There must be a door.)The Scoobies do bring joy to my life. This week, joy is something that’s been scarce. Which brings me to Joy Is! Fellow author, Dave Williams is hosting a Joy Is series, where he invited us to do guest posts about things that bring us joy. I’ll be there on Thursday, January 23rd. I hope you’ll click this link and find my post about something else that brings me joy.
Speaking of doors, above is one of Dave’s books, Minotaur at the Door. Which brings me to the Thursday Doors part of this post.
Thursday Doors to Joy

A fun dive into crushes of the past, and frogs, Teagan. I’ll admit to being a David Cassidy fan when I was 10, before switching to the Beatles. 🙂 And I’m heading over to Dave’s to read about what brings you joy. (What a great series). Hugs.
I can’t help chuckling at your mention of crushes. Those names are vaguely familiar to me, but that’s about it. I’m more from the Hopalong Cassidy era; he was hero to me. (No ‘stache.) I love the door opening outward; there’s joy there for sure. I think there’s also joy in whatnots — serendipity, yes?
Joy To The World is still singing in my mind!! That alone brought back awesome memories!! Thanks for sharing on this post and the one you linked us to….the things that bring you joy goes beyond what you realize. Because of those things….ultimately leading to your writing….your writing brings joy to your readers. Thank you for that!!
Thank you for this uplifting comment, Jennie. Yes indeed we all do. Thanks for the link. It wasn’t working, but I’ll try and search for the post.
Joy, like many things, needs our mental and emotional “door” to be open before it can enter. Although it isn’t always easy or even possible to open that door. I think everyone is going to have to try harder to open it now. Encouraging each other helps, and you are a champion at that. Big hugs.
Yay, that one works! Oh Jennie, that is a splendid post. I love the part about singing a book. My cats love it when I take a song and make up “kitty cat words” about them and sing it. (Otherwise they hate my singing!)
I hope you will send Dave Williams this link and ask him to reblog it for Joy Is.
I’m glad it worked, and thanks for sharing on FB. Yes!! I love singing Goodnight Moon! I bet your kitty cat words are music to their ears. I sent this to Dave, too. Mega hugs! 💕
Cats always bring joy! Also hairballs – but that’s beside the point. I had a crush on David Cassidy and Parker Stevenson (Hardy Boys) growing up, lol. Hugs to you and the Scoobies, Teagan!
Indeed we do, Sue. (shakes head) These are discombobulating and depressing times. I have to work a lot harder to come up with anything positive to share, but it’s worth the effort when someone smiles. Thank you for visiting. Joy to you — and hugs.
Hi Teagan, I am glad the kitty cats bring your happiness. Mine do too. January is already bringing health problems to my door. Ugh! I didn’t have an idea for Dave’s series but your post has given me inspiration. Thank you.
Robbie, if I’ve made you feel even a little inspiration during your circumstances, then my objective is fulfilled. Wishing wellness to your dad, and all your family. Be sure to take good care of you too. Joy to you — and hugs.
Ah, but Resa, drawing and sewing tell stories just as surely as do words. 👩🎨 But I understand what you mean.
Maybe one day you will sew a gown with many long floaty chiffon scarves made with “all the colors of joy” (that’s my Teaganese term, LOL). It brings me joy to imagine all the gowns you will draw and sew. Thanks for commenting, and for visiting Dave’s blog. Hugs.
Hugs!
Dave is cool!
I have though of making a gown out of all of the pages of a novel. 1 Book, 1 gown.
Thing is I would need to preserve the pages somehow, that is sustainable… like used plastic bags or something like that.
More hugs!
Maybe some kind of coating, similar to Scotch-guarding? But that would be smelly. I guess each page could be scanned and then used in the way that T-shirt designs are printed… but that would be expensive. Sorry, neither is a good idea, but you woke up the “how to?” part of my brain. LOL.
Glad to give you a smile, Daniel. That one with the posed frog figurine — the photographer had a series at Pixabay with the frog doing different things. They’re really fun. Hugs.
Joy to you too on this Wednesday, Teagan! I had a mad crush for David Cassidy too and had all the Partridge Family albums. I think some may still be in my mom’s stereo cabinet. I forgot to look when I was there in September. Doh!
Thanks, Deborah! I was so busy being different that at the time I didn’t realize how great the Partridge Family songs were. Thanks for sharing that memory. Hugs.
I thought of “Joy To The World” when I saw the title of the post. Sure enough, you start off with Three Dog Night. The photo of Daphne on your laptop, admiring your coffee, is wonderful. My cats like to stomp across my laptop, and they do key combos that sometimes wreak havoc, and I have a terrible time figuring out how to undo the mess they made. Cat-like typing kills.
Great minds, Tim… LOL. Velma is my usual keyboard mischief maker, but for the past two day, it’s been Daphne — and she’s a lot bigger than Velma so no working around her. Maybe it’s the weather being in the teens… Velma stays snug in her bed. Daphne is probably complaining to me about it (via getting on the computer). The past 2 mornings have been 10 degrees. I hate to think how much colder it is up your way. Joy to you! Hugs.
A fun collection in your post. Not only a disco frog, but a few joys! I can see why the Scoobies bring joy to your life 🙂 A big thanks for the nod to my Joy project and to my book. Seeing the cover of “Minotaur” brings me back to drawing lots of cross-hatching while listening to instrumental music. It got to be meditative and relaxing. I’m looking forward to your Joy post going live tomorrow 🌞
My pleasure, Dave. It’s a wonderful project. The drawing/music combo does sound relaxing. I’ve been telling myself for a year to take up drawing again, but it doesn’t happen. LOL, probably because I was never really any good. (I haven’t done much at all for drawing or painting since my late teens.) Joy to you! Hugs.
A great idea for a series of guest post! I look forward to it, and thanks for sharing this song. I was never one for liking the most popular performers or actors when I was younger, so I know what you’re talking about. Love to the Scoobies and big hugs to you!
I also loved Three Dog Night. This post brought back fond memories of 1971. I was the proud papa of a baby daughter and when she was a little older, loved to hear the Jeremiah song along with “Mama told me not to come.” It’s a fun post. Daphne’s whiskers are impressive.
Yes, that was another good one. LOL, I felt wonderfully wicked when I would play it on a jukebox! Thanks for sharing that beautiful memory here, John. Joy to you! Hugs.
I remember that song! Thanks for posting that, Teagan!

I love your joy, Teagan. We all need to feel and spread joy. Doesn’t everyone like the cool guy in Three Dog Night and Jeremiah the bullfrog? Here is a letter I wrote to teachers about finding joy: https://jenniefitzkee.com/2015/09/07/dear-teachers-jo…s-the-magic-word/
