The Journeys of “Dead of Winter” have reached the conclusion.

From the very beginning, a prophecy from a creepy voice threaded throughout this story.  “Winter is coming!” it warned.  As the Journeys progressed, we became aware of additional related prophesies like one of the “lost white brother” and “the frozen sands.”  Both of those are touched on in this concluding novella.

Other threads from the previous thirteen Journeys also come together in this volume, which concludes Dead of Winter.

I see this conclusion as a two-part ending.  Without giving spoilers, the first brings the action to a head and resolves that aspect.

The second is much more than an epilogue.  It resolves the issue of the destroyed Veil which separated the Realm of the Living from the Realm of the Dead.  Because many readers said they don’t want these Journeys to end, in the final chapter, I added hints about potential future adventures for many of the characters.  These are not to suggest sequels. Rather, it’s food for the imagination of readers, so that the story can continue in the mind.

This has been as much of a “journey” for me as it was for Emlyn.  I’ve seen truths about myself along the way.  Perhaps the same applies to you.

  13. 2010 – 2022 A long journey but you survived! ! And survived very well! ! But, I think it probably does not seem that long. Thank you for all the hours, all the words, all the thought that went into this story, And, so well written! ! Waiting for the next adventure! !

    1. Heartfelt thanks, Ms. Frances. Your comments always make me smile. I appreciate all your encouragement and time. I *think* I’ve decided that the next novel will be one that was 3/4ths finished several years ago. It was a journey of a different sort. I made up a mythology for Route 66, and the story is a magical road-trip set in 1970. I called it The Guitar Mancer.

    1. Thank you, Resa. It sure was. Started writing in 2010 — and continued writing for 2 years…then onto the shelf because of the coincidence of Game of Thrones using “winter is coming” as an advertising catch-phrase (and of course that was a huge part of my story. Then 16 months of rewrites to make it into a series/serial and editing… and formatting, and book covers… Yes, as much as I enjoyed it, I feel a burden has been lifted. Thank you for all your support.   21. Teagan, what a wonderful video! And I have Journey 14 on the stack of Journey books. The first 3 taken out. I’ll be on a reading blitz with 5 reviews coming. When I started the journeys, I got waylaid with finishing my historical fiction book, as you know. You were an immense help in getting me through the self-publishing part. Now I can immerse myself in fantasy reading. It is a joy starting Journey 1 again. 📚🎶❤️ Christine

    1. You’re so kind about the trailer, Diana. I wanted to do something that shared all the covers. It surprised me when I was able to include a few of my favorite cover concepts that didn’t make it onto a book too. So those weren’t wasted after all.

    1. Yay! Thank you, Pat.
      Ugh… I have a 3 inch long scar (from surgery on a broken wrist — fell on black ice) to remind me of it forever. That winter is how the idea for this story — particularly the title took root. Although I don’t consider anything as a silver lining to my time there. But I’m finally back to the southwest, where I knew “home” was the first morning that I walked outside there (the first time I moved from Nashville to NM). Hopefully I’ll eventually manage to heal enough that I can make good memories here and forget about everything from everywhere else. Cheers and hugs.

  31. Congratulations! I know how much you wanted to accomplish in this final Journey. I am happy for you that you have finished. My copy is on it’s way. I’ll post the final picture of the new book resting against my laptop’s open screen. It should be here tomorrow! I peeked at the Kindle version – to read the prologue – I am hooked!

    1. LOL about taking a peek at the Kindle. I had a prologue… (not new material, but I had written a new one — which is still in the book) and then I realized that I needed to have that prologue circle back to the beginning of the series. I’m happy to know you liked it.
