July is here, and so is the latest issue of Dead of Winter!

NOTE: Sadly, my TDS Telecom Internet is completely out. They can’t send a tech this week. So, l am not able to be as present as l would like.

Welcome everyone.  To those in the USA, I hope you enjoyed Independence Day.  To our neighbors to the north, I hope it was a lovely Canada Day.  (That was also my birthday, and I’m mostly glad to survive another year.  That’s never my favorite day. ‘Nuf said.) 

Last month the June issue of “Dead of Winter” took our travelers to a unexpected crannog.  I won’t give spoilers, so I’ll just say that is also where we left Emlyn and company in “The Fluting Fell.”  Today I’m glad to say that Journey 7, Revenant Pass will pick up there — and proceed to give you a rollercoaster ride of action and suspense.  It’s not as long as the last one, but it’s not short on excitement.

Dead of Winter: Journey 7, Revenant Pass begins with the ancient watcher’s memory of the Library of the Society of Deae Matres — and its fall.  We also get a look into the thought process of treacherous Arawn.  The the story picks up where we left Emlyn and company, trapped in the Realm of the Dead.

Then some characters go missing.  You’ll have to read to learn more.

An Out-Take — 3 Dead of Winter Things

As most of you know, I began writing this epic in the winter of 2010.  It took more than two years for me to finish.  During those years, occasionally I used my “three things” exercise. Sometimes the exercises made it into the novel, other times not. Here’s a tidbit I wrote that way which is not in the books.

Rusted chains, Coach, Silence

Snowflakes drifted lazily through the air.  He hadn’t seen snow in Pergesca since he was a small boy.  He stood in silence, transfixed by the wonder of the sight for a moment.  Then with a jolt he realized that was a side effect of the problem.  The Veil was broken.  Winter had come.  There was a light coat of rust on the chains, but Gregorios thought they were still sound.  In his haste, he didn’t unhitch the horses from his coach, but chained the small wagon to the back of the coach.  It wasn’t so large that the horses couldn’t pull both.

  1. I’m so looking forward to reading journey 7. I have to finish a couple other things first, so this will nudge me along. This cover is intriguing, though I love all the covers and the journey! Best wishes!

    1. That’s music to my ears, JoAnna. I’m happy you like the cover too. I was pleased with how the elements came together. Journey 8… that might be another matter, if I try to make the kind of image I’ve always had in mind for that part. 🙂 Thanks for being part of these Journeys. Hugs!

        1. Hi Diana. Amazon still hasn’t opened Vella to readers. Now they’re saying “late July.” So you probably can’t find it. I uploaded the first episode a couple of months ago. Now I have three 2-chapter episodes uploaded. I’m debating whether to start making the episodes shorter. But if I do, I’m not going to the trouble of taking those 3 down and redoing them.
          I don’t like their process for Vella. It removes the formatting, and adds a lot of “returns” (line breaks) even in the middle of sentences. So it’s a lot of extra work to make it look better.
          Hopefully life will get back to my warped version of normal next week. LOL. Then I can get more done.

          1. I uploaded a first episode (about 2k words) yesterday without too much difficulty. I’d hoped to have more ready, but…. nope. I imported the doc, which worked really well with formatting (versus copy and paste, which was a formatting nightmare). I’m curious to see what happens when everything goes live. I’m glad I’m trying it, but we shall see.

  17. Journey 7 is my current nighttime read, and I am enjoying it. Well done, Teagan. Talk about wishing someone an easy slide…I hope this gets easier as you roll through Journeys 8 through (n). Sorry to be mathy.
