Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Those of you who have known me for a long time, know that I’ve been a tarot reader since the 1990s, all sorts of cards and divining and intuitive processes.  Long-time followers might remember my blog and book versions of a series of cozy 1920s mysteries about Pip, which began with The Three Things Serial Story.  Plus you know how I love whimsy. Right about now you’re probably wondering how I’m going to connect those things for a post.

SR Mallery When in Rome

Recently I ran across a series of from fellow author, S. R. Mallery.  She has combined cozy mysteries with time travel and tarot, and she’s done it in a fun, whimsical way.  Oh, and there are two books.  It was almost Saint Patrick’s day, and I love green, so I jumped right into the second book with barely a thought that there was one before it.  However, that has not impeded my enjoyment at all.  I’ve been having my Echo Dot read it to me while I work on thrilling things like income taxes… The story actually helped make doing taxes bearable. Haha.  Although don’t let that cause you to miss the first book.

Here’s the information Sarah (S.R.) provided about the books.

BOOK #2 OF THE AWARD WINNING Brooke & Abby cozy mystery series, where clues from the past help solve modern murder cases.
Why does Abby tarot card her way back to Ancient Rome when there’s no need to? After all, the recent death in town has been declared by the local pathologist to be simply an accidental, epileptic tragedy and nothing more. Or is it?
Follow the Gang of Five, as Abby time-travels to the Age of Emperors, Brooke learns to follow her heart, Henry studies old antiquities, detectives Tony and Larry continue their police work, and Brooke’s niece, Haley, joins their ranks––just in time to learn a most valuable lesson: things aren’t always what they seem…

Got tea, anyone? In 1773, the Boston Tea Party sure did. Find out why going back in time helps break the case!

  1. Another fascinating article–thank you for including me in your articles–it means a lot to me. Now, spring in over, income tax is a thing of the past, so we can enjoy a lot–books, stories and all the warm areas of parks and seaside wonderings! !

    1. You make it sound wonderful, Ms Frances. Sigh… seaside wanderings. 🙂
Yes, and if you have books on a Kindle, you can “enable the text-to-speech feature on your Kindle Fire device to have written content read aloud” while you wander. Or in my case, while I do non-writing things. Adding to the fun, you can have her speak in different accents.
“The Delta Pearl” will be at the river tomorrow. I hope you’ll come aboard when you have time. Hugs on the wing!

  2. Listening to a good book while doing taxes sounds wonderful, Teagan. A great tip that I’ll use. Thanks for sharing a couple of new books. I’m on a reading lull as I charge through my WIP, but I’ve added these to my wishlist. 🙂 Happy Reading, my friend.

    1. Ha! Everyone always told me the old country adage “If it wasn’t for bad luck, you wouldn’t have any luck at all.” I trudge along anyway. Now that the drudgery is out of the way, I need to catch up on editing and writing. Crystal says I’m typing too loud. LOL Hugs on the wing!

  3. Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Teagan! Sounds like you found some good reads. I made it through taxes last week, never fun unless a good story is being read to you. Hugs xo

    1. Thanks Denise. I hope it wasn’t too bad for you. It would have been nice to get a good refund, but those days are gone for me. At least I didn’t have to pay. I even got enough back to cover the cost of tax software. Breaking even is an improvement over last year, and a relief. LOL. Hugs on the wing!

      1. Not too bad, but I’m a terrible record keeper so it takes longer than it should:) I agree breaking even is a good goal at this point. xo

LOVE the cat in the Shamrocks!
It’s odd, but i can listen to music, while I work, but I can’t seem to listen to a book.
Well, green bee’s knees, green cat’s pyjamas & green hugs to you!

  5. SO much thanks for featuring my cozies, Teagan! And the fact that my WHEN IN ROME could lessen your angst while doing taxes is the best compliment an author could ever get! LOL. Big Hugs On The Wing. xo

    1. LOL! It helped me survive, Sarah. I’ve loved your Dolan Girls audio book narration. This is the first time I’ve had my Echo (Alexa) read to me. While a real narration is much better, Echo/Alexa isn’t anywhere near as bad as I expected her to be. So I was able to enjoy myself during the stressful drudgery.
It was my pleasure to feature your cozy books. Wishing you a pot o’ gold, and all the joy your heart can hold. 🍀

      1. I’m hoping Ellen Quay, my narrator for Tea, Anyone? will also be able to narrate WHEN IN ROME….lol. Thanks, I’ll take that pot ‘o gold, and treasure all that joy my heart can hold…

  6. I’ve read a few of S.R. Malllery’s novels a while back, and loved them, but I didn’t realise she had published some cozy mysteries as well. Thanks for the recommentation, Teagan, and good luck with everything. (I’m enjoying Journey 3 so much I don’t want it to finish yet)! Stay safe!

I’m so happy you are enjoying Journey 3 — that’s encouragement for me to push through the real-world work and get busy with Journey 4. Wishing you a pot o’ gold, and all the joy your heart can hold. 🍀

    1. It is, Dan. Sarah comes across with the right touch of not taking herself too seriously, but still adding a bit of drama. I rarely do a full-on “review,” but I try to just mention something I enjoyed. 🍀 Hope a bit o’ Irish luck and a bit of Irish cheer will snuggle down inside your heart and stay all through the year! 🍀
