Thursday Doors — Book Cover Designs

Happy Thursday.  I’m working hard to have the next “Journey” of Dead of Winter published on time, even though I don’t set firm dates for that.  …And somehow, heaven help me, an episode of The Delta Pearl for this blog.  Since I didn’t get to my regular Wednesday Writing post, I’m making a quick contribution to “Thursday Doors,” hosted by Dan Antion over at No Facilities. 

Looking at an image can be a great writing prompt.  Look at these purple doors, and leave a comment telling what you imagine could be on the other side.  Exercise your imagination.  Who would be there? What would they be doing? Where and when might they be?

  1. Fabulous covers, Teagan! Behind the purple door I imagine vases of flowers everywhere, French provincial furniture, beautiful art hanging on walls and interesting sculptures in key places. The room smells of fresh baked bread.

  10. I definitely imagine a fortune teller behind that purple door. She’s the real deal. She dresses in flowing layered attire in the same shades of purple. Do not knock on that door unless you are prepared for what may follow.

  17. Beautiful, Teagan! Behind the purple doors? I imagine a family print shop, founding in the late 1800s. Books, cards, stationery…it attracts folks of all interests. (I’m cheating. I went into one such shop in Florence and was entranced!) 💗

  19. Behind the purple door, I see a huge warehouse filled with kegs of wine. One of those kegs holds a secret that if found would alter how people view the universe. The winemaker has been entrusted to make sure the keg is secure and the secret safe. He is now missing.

  20. Pretty covers, Teagan. Behind those purple doors? A bookstore and flower shop run by an eccentric old woman. When someone enters the shop they always leave with something they needed more than a book or flower – insights, love, or healing. 🙂 Have a great day, my friend.

  23. Purple is one of my favorite colors, so behind that door will be only good things – chocolate, red wine, books, cats, and movie marathons of Star Wars, Marvel, LOTR, and Harry Potter. And anything else I can imagine.

  25. Hyacinth knew she had to live here as soon as she saw the doorway and windows. Her name and signature color were written all over. The bottom window would display a large enough to read without your glasses copy of the poem, “When I’m older I’ll wear purple”. The Red Hat Society would claim the comfortable chairs with nearby tables to hold wine and nibbles as their preferred meeting place. Now all she needed was the money to buy the building. Murder, theft, faked will?

    1. Ha! Love it, Pat. I was a Red Hat lady back in Albuquerque (over a decade ago). More accurately, for them I was a “pink hat” — their name for members under 50. So, you never know what ladies in purple dresses and red hats might be up to. LOL. Thanks for coming out to play. Hugs on the wing!

        1. I had a great time with them. I probably wouldn’t do it again, with all my “stuff.” But that applies to joining any group. The “queen” stuff can bring out undesirable personality quirks in a few people. I have no idea what the overall group might be associated with these days. I looked briefly for a group when I moved to DC, but the ones I found were either not taking new members, or their activities were way beyond my price/means. So my knowledge of them is very dated. But it was certainly fun back in the day. 🙂

          1. My read and critique group had a few queens in the past year that tried to run the group in their own image. I didn’t care for that. I rejoined the group this year and have no real interest in participating. How much of that is COVID zoom rather than in-person meetings, remains to be determined.

  26. I imagine a flamboyant, older woman has her art studio there. She wears things that move, like silk caftans, tie-dyed tunics, palazzo pants, and long strings of beads. She has a tan year round, and she always works barefoot. And she wears her white hair in a long braid down her back to keep it from falling in her paints.

  27. Oh, Teagan. That first book cover is set in the 1960s. I just rode my bike home from the park where a bunch of us were playing Wiffleball. I rode home fast because my brother will be calling soon. It’s Sunday, he always calls on Sunday when the long-distance rates are lower. He’s away at college. I can’t wait to here more about what he’s been doing.

    Good to see another early bird, Teagan. I love your book covers. They do a good job of painting the scene behind the door.

  29. Fabulous, Teagan. I can imagine a wonderful bookshop behind the purple doors, or, ideally, a wonderful bookshop downstairs, and a lovely little home upstairs, for the bookshop owner. Yes, I wouldn’t mind living there! Gorgeous! Thanks, Teagan!
