Emlyn on her way to Journey 2, by Teagan
Emlyn on her way to Journey 2, by Teagan

I’ve been combining Wednesdays and Thursdays so that I can participate in the Thursday Doors posts, hosted by Dan Antion.  To my surprised delight, the book launch for Dead of Winter: Journey 1, Forlorn Peak is still going.  So I’m sharing extra posts, in support of those who are helping me.)

Wednesday Writing

The Wednesday Writing part of this post is about the lack of writing.  My apologies to those who follow my steampunk riverboat serial, The Delta Pearl. I didn’t intend for my break to last more than a weekend.  Admittedly, I needed time to launch Dead of Winter.  However, I already have “issues,” and the stuff happening in this country has basically incapacitated me.  I haven’t been able to write The Delta Pearl, or edit the next “journey” in Dead of Winter.  There are a dozen mundane daily things I haven’t been able to do either, but you don’t need or want to hear about that.

Working with images helps me.  That’s the one thing I’ve been able to do during the past week and a half. The image above is a concept I made for Dead of Winter: Journey 2, Penllyn.  However, it was too dissimilar to the first journey’s cover.  Over the weekend I worked obsessively on the cover for Journey 2 and finally settled on the image — cover reveal for that coming soon!

Now to the Teaganizations of doors for Thursday Doors.  In a segue from Wednesday Writing to Thursday doors… Author S. R. (Sarah) Mallery featured Dead of Winter in her monthly newsletter.  Sarah introduced many terrific books in this newsletter.  You can signup for it here.

AN AUTHENTIC, HEARTWARMING, AND AT THE SAME TIME, RIP ROARING WESTERN ROMANCE
It’s 1800 Old Nebraska, where whorehouse madams, ladies of the night, a schoolmarm, a Pinkerton detective, a Shakespeare-quoting old coot, brutal outlaws, and a horse-wrangler come to life. Added to the mix are adult themes and a colorful land rush, Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley, bank/train robberies, small town local politics, and of course––ROMANCE.

Another Rip Roaring, Heart Warming Story of Love, Fear, and Redemption in the Wild West

It’s 1891 and The DOLAN GIRLS western romance saga continues. This time it stars the feisty Ellie Dolan Parker, who finds herself caught up in the middle of the Wyoming Cattle Wars. Filled with rich, greedy cattle barons thirsty for prime land, crooked politicians, a major kidnapping, local ranchers in life-threatening danger, Butch Cassidy’s Hole In The Wall hideout, hired ‘guns’ from Texas, a troubled marriage, and a blossoming romance, this story is a colorful portrayal of a forgotten time. A time when these well-known events and their players filled the newspapers.
Will Ellie make her mark? Or will she simply become one of the victims?

Farther West to California

It’s a different story from the novels above… not really a western at all.  But hey, California is definitely in the West.  Oh, and yes that’s a helicopter — they have doors.  This is the third in a series from Gwen Plano.  Check out the rest at her blog.

The Culmination, a new beginning is the third book in The Contract thriller series. After an assassination attempt on an Air Force base in northern California, tensions mount. Heads of state meet to craft a denuclearization agreement. The meetings between these nuclear powers take a murderous turn. A nefarious conspiracy re-emerges and leads the characters into the heart of the Middle East, where they encounter the unexpected and find a reason for hope.

Winter Is Here

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who had posted and supported Dead of Winter: Journey 1, Forlorn Peak.  Today Robbie Cheadle is posting a review! More on that soon. Thursday, Dan Antion has a very special Thursday Doors post showing some real world places that remind him of Emlyn’s world.

Dead of Winter: Journey 1, Forlorn Peak

With Dead of Winter, I call the installments Journeys, because the characters travel across the complex world I built, experiencing new cultures and meeting new people. These journeys will publish approximately monthly.  Length will range from 30 to 60 pages, or so.

  1. Wonderful, Teagan! I love your comment, “working with images helps me.” Yes! Isn’t that why people go to an art museum, to see an image and become inspired? Isn’t that why people are drawn to oceans and mountains? Images trigger the brain (and the heart), and inspire writing.

  4. I enjoyed these creative doors to authors authors and their work, Teagan. That is a nice tour schedule you have lined up, too!

Hugs to you and Crystal from all of us here. Last night’s rain and windstorm departed and left us mostly clear skies with a good view of the coming sunrise here this morning. It’s going to be a beautiful day.

    1. Hi Lavinia. Ha! I confess that I’m kind of overwhelmed — but in the best possible way.
I can just imagine your beautiful surroundings. We had an oddly cloudy day yesterday, but no rain. We need rain… or some kind of moisture. Today the sun is already bright and beautiful. It will warm up quickly from that low in the teens. (Just as the summer was a lot hotter and longer than normal, so has the winter been colder and starting earlier than usual.) I guess that should keep me inspired for editing Dead of Winter! LOL.
Hugs winging to you, Rick, and the kitties.

    1. Thank you kindly, Jill. I love to “lift up” others. [“We rise by lifting others.” Robert G. Ingersoll] Plus working with the images is a great way for me to cope with anxiety. I’m happy you like them. Hugs on the wing!

  7. Fabulous post, Teagan. I love Sarah’s books, but must catch up on some of her recent ones. And I love your images (I hope things improve soon, although I know you’re not alone in feeling worried). Take care and congratulations!
