Is that title enough to make you wonder when you are?  I’ve stepped away from writing The Delta Pearl, and editing Dead of Winter.  For a moment, I’m indulging in a fascination with doors. 

Dan Antion is the new host of “Thursday Doors,” a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Bloggers create their own Thursday Doors post each week.  Yes, I know it’s not Thursday…  There’s some flexibility — I prefer to post on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so I’m keeping that schedule.

Last week I announced that I’ve added a page to this blog for the “designed & ready” book covers service I’m offering. (Thanks to Dan for coming up with that term.)  Why have I brought those two very different topics together?  I was inspired to create a collection of doors themed book covers!

  1. Your post reminded me of some of the photos that I have taken in my travels. I like to take pictures of interesting doors-sometimes they just seem to want to tell a story. I like the one with the lock as well.

  6. I love the door-themed covers, Teagan. Doors always invite people in so the books are inviting. I particularly liked the artistic blue door. I’m glad you work with Rob and Dan. By the way, sorry not to check my Goodreads. I’m not very active in Goodreads or BookBub, I should be. Thank you for posting your review on Goodreads. It’s wonderful. If you’re an Amazon customer, I also would love to have your review posted on Amazon.

    1. Hi, Mr. Ohh. Heartfelt thanks for this comment.
      I can offer a bit of a compromise. With the PTSD-related problems that caused me to leave work… I’m not ready to try truly custom designs, or editing-related manuscript feedback. I freak out at the idea. A shame with my strong editing resume, but I’m trying to heal — and I hope to do custom designs and editing eventually… just not yet.
      That said, if you gave me an idea, a core component, I might get inspired to do a few designs that run with that theme. For example, a blogging friend liked the cover that had sheet music, but wished it was old letters. My imagination took over and I did a small collection, which also expanded my “Memoirs & Poetry” collection.
      So if you told me one thing that is core to your book, and the era of its setting, the same creative impulse is likely to take over. If you don’t want to leave that info here, you can get my email out of your blog or look me up on Facebook messaging.

        1. Driving after any accident can be a huge challenge. Yes, I know that very well.
          Thanks for trusting me with your story idea. I’ve redacted it from the comments. It sounds delightfully whimsical. I will enjoy playing with some related images that could be flexible. Maybe one of them will resonate with you. I have one question. What age group is your intended audience?

  8. Great fun, Teagan! One thing about e-books is that you don’t see the variety of covers, but I’m so thankful that they’re around since libraries were closed for so long. Even now I think those near us are still pickup only. I like to browse, so I haven’t utilized that yet, but I may one of these days, especially so I can browse cookbooks. That just doesn’t work well in e-books.

    1. Thanks, Janet. It’s just as important for e-books to have a cover as it is for paper. Amazon shows the covers for Kindle books, just as it does hardcopy. They have a sidebar that lets one define a search to genre and other parameters so that we can still browse. Thanks for visiting. Hugs on the wing.

    1. Thanks so much, Lavinia. That one is certainly a door to the imagination. Yes, I think I would need to go through that door too. 😉

    1. I appreciate your encouragement, Diana. I’ve tried to have the covers tell a flexible story. I’m delighted if any of them inspire writing — regardless of purchase.
      Oddly, that is the one I had doubts about using — yet it has been specifically mentioned twice now.
      If I don’t get busy writing and editing, the Delta Pearl will be in dry dock again, and Dead of Winter will be… well, winter will still just be coming, not here. LOL. Thanks for visiting. Hugs on the wing!

  18. There is no end to your talent. The lady in the emerald green dress reminds me of a time travel Emerald. I love all of your book covers–the lady backlit by the open window is lovely and totally appropriate, and I find that one a bit of a surprise. Artistic hugs floating your way on watercolor wings.

    1. You are so kind Pat. I really appreciate this feedback. LOL, well, green *is* her signature color. :mrgreen:
      Admittedly, I’m just not good with romance. So I was surprised too, when that one spoke to me. I’m trying to create a collection of covers for every type of story. What really surprises me is that I’m not finding things to inspire me for the “crime and mystery” category. I did come up with one particularly creepy (to me) cover that I finished yesterday. It came together when I combined the two elements that made it feel so stalker-y creepy. LOL. Hugs winging right back to you. 🙂

It’s wonderful to see you’ve expanded your considerable talents from writing to cover designs, but door-themed designs are just perfect and close to my heart.   22. I love the covers, Teagan, and thanks for plugging our fun weekly challenge. You certainly have a flare for designing covers. I really like the one you featured. We see a lot of doors with large wrought iron hinges, on Thursday Doors and they always amaze me.
