Wednesday Writing — #Review Speak Flapper, and more

Wednesday, February 19, 2020

Yesterday, Marcia Meara shared a review of my non-fiction book “Speak Flapper – Slang of the 1920s.”   I was both thrilled and humbled to have this wonderful review from Fiza Pathan. I hope you’ll check out her blog, The Insane Owl.

It’s Tuesday again, folks, and time to welcome our guest of the day, Teagan Ríordáin Geneviene. Teagan is sharing a review of her book, Speak Flapper – Slang of the 1920s, and I know you’ll enjoy reading about this one. I’ve always been fascinated with the decade, myself, and I have this book coming up […]

It was firmly instilled in me as a child that I should never, not even look like I was about to, say something good about myslef.  So, you can’t imagine how hard this post full of crowing is for me.  But I will blush beyond pink and continue…  It really is a little traumatic to do this. This year I’ve released two small books, and I’m so grateful that they both have been well received. I have to express that gratitude.

I just found another review for Speak Flapper at Amazon UK, from Beem Weeks. I’m really glad I decided to let everyone see the eight years of work I spent collecting that information.

I’m also tickled pink that  Fiona Finch and the Pink Valentine got three reviews! Writing and publishing the novelette was whirlwind fast, so I didn’t expect any reviews.  However, there are reviews from D. Wallace Peach, Robbie Cheadle and Priscilla Bettis

Their reviews are here.

I’m still on cloud nine! Still doing the Snoopy dance.  Have a wonderful, and an easy coast down the other side of the midweek hump.  Hugs on the wing!

    1. Oh, a reading challenge! Groan… I read so slowly, Mary. I’d never manage. I’m glad to give you a “wing” with it. 😀 Thanks so much. I’m delighted that it’s giving you a chuckle. I really appreciate you. The end of last week and the weekend got really rough. So I really needed all this encouragement. Hugs on the wing!

  1. Congratulations, Teagan, you should enjoy ALL your achievements! There are many out there who were brought up with the silly notion one should not say anything good about oneself. Keep on shining brightly like the star you are!

That’s awful about you’re upbringing. You have every right to trot out these awesome reviews and CELEBRATE!

    1. Thank you for your kind encouragement, Mae. You’re right. I used to say it in an almost flippant, sarcastic way, but more and more, lately, I can see how that has made a negative impact on my circumstances and wellbeing.
I’m delighted you looked at the reviews. It really was unexpected. Hugs on the wing.

  3. You’re having a good week, Teagan. 🙂 And of course, you must share the good news! It’s important and part of being an author among friends. I’m glad you enjoyed my review of Fiona because I enjoyed the delightful read!

    1. Thanks so much, Dianna. I rarely check to see if I’ve gotten reviews. Mostly because I’m terrified. LOL. When I stumbled upon these, my first reaction was “How did those get there?” Then as I started reading them I went from the stratosphere to the moon! 😀

  4. Teagan, congratulations! 🎉🎉 I’m halfway through the book and thoroughly enjoying it … you deserve all the praise. Even more important you deserve to be happy for it, celebrate your achievements and feel joy in your creations. It must have been hard to grow up where anything positive about oneself was immediately put down … I’m glad you shared your fantastic news, even if this was a bit torturous. Next time it will be less so! Hugs xx 😀❤️🦋

    1. Oh, I’m so happy you are enjoying this little story, Annika!
My off-handed remark about myself seems to have “clicked” with something in many people. I used to say it in an almost flippant, sarcastic way, but more and more, lately, I can see how that has made an extremely negative impact on my circumstances and wellbeing — and has throughout all these decades. Heartfelt thanks for your kind encouragement. Hugs on the wing!
