Don’t look at your calendar, my chuckaboos. You’re right, this is not Wednesday.  I couldn’t wait to let you know that I have a new novelette.  With your encouragement, I finished the story I told you about last week! 

I even made a video trailer for this whimsical steampunk-Victorian tale.

People in the Steam Era sent valentines to friends as well as family and lovers.  The darn things cost a small fortune these days.  How often do you see a charming valentine for just 99 cents?  Not to mention that this valentine includes more than an hour of fun (depending on how fast you read).  As of this writing, Amazon has not yet released the paperback, but the Kindle version is ready.   Universal link to e-book.  Or try https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084NZFZ14?tag=relinks-20

Put your feet up and enjoy a whimsical break with this quick, lighthearted story. There’s some romance, and a lot of silliness. This is a tale of an old lost valentine and the shenanigans that ensue when it turns up. Fiona Finch and her brother Steele – along with a helping “wing” from Quellie the duck, work to bring two long ago sweethearts back together. Even though it is a Valentine’s Day story, it does not include sex or passionate romance. It does, however, include a lot of imaginative fun.

My post last week included a generous snippet, so I’ll only share a tidbit today.

Tidbit

There was a bit of drizzle that might well become a harder rain. However, that wasn’t my reason for picking up the special umbrella Steele had created.

I opened my French doors and stepped out onto the balcony and looked down at the street forty feet below. The trolley was very near. I climbed over the railing. When I pressed the little catch, the umbrella opened. I shifted a lever near the top. Propellers lifted up from the fabric and started to spin. I jumped away from the balcony and…

    1. You treasure, Gerlinde. Thank you. The story has some Victorian Era slang words. But they are in italics, so if those don’t make sense to you, just remember that part is silly fun. I hope you have a good time with the story. Hugs on the wing!

I searched through a lot of songs (not at all satisfied with anything I found), then I finally landed on that one. I thought it was a good fit. It’s valuable feedback to know you liked it that much.     1. You’re so kind about the book, Annika. I blush. ^^’ The trailers are a lot of fun to make. I’ve been wanting to do a big steampunk adventure novel for Fiona. The character and her backstory have been in my head for quite a while. Since I have so many other projects waiting “in line” I know that’s a long way off. So I decided to let her have a Valentine’s story. I hope you enjoy it. Hugs!

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed the trailer, Mary. Haha, only a touch. I don’t think I’m capable of writing a real romance. I tried, early on, and couldn’t do more than a scene.
      Yeah… I don’t know what happened with that link the first time. I checked it three times to make sure it went to the right place (since, to my mortification that happened with Thistledown links going to the wrong version). When I went back and re-checked this morning, there was no link at all! Thanks for your encouragement. Hugs!

        1. It’s not just you, Billy Ray. WordPress (for months) has been eating up a lot of the computer’s power. It uses so much that the like buttons don’t load. Sometimes I switch the post to “Reader” but sometimes that won’t even show up. Anyhow, you are very kind to follow through. Don’t worry about the “like”. Hugs.

      1. I bought and read the story too, my chuckaboo. Very nice and San Francisco is the perfect setting. New York would have a distant second. Heart shaped hugs quacking your way.
        You’ll need to write a Quellie mother (redacted) story now.

        2. Okay, so what I was going to say (and this time I’ll copy it before I hit send)… I make a point of setting my stories in a place I’ve lived and know well. I spent 20+ years wanting/trying to move to San Francisco, but never could afford housing there. BUT the Steele character — he is not really inspired by a friend in San Francisco, but I can’t think of Fiona or Steele without thinking of him. So the story couldn’t be anywhere else. I researched. The telephone company is real and that entire bit. Yerba Halls comes from Yerba Gardens, a real place that was there that long ago. The Wo family was a real family in commerce there of the day.
          And now I’m just babbling from Internet-disconnect trauma. 😉

  28. I will wait for the paperback – I just love Amazon and they are so quick to mail. Need to look at the trailer as it looks like fun and perfect for this time of the year 🙂 I have many Valentine post cards from my Great Grandmother and they are so precious to me!

    1. Oh wow, those postcards would truly be a treasure, Judi!
      I agree that Amazon has been faster than I expected with the paperbacks — I hope they keep that up. I’m surprised that they haven’t launched it yet. However, I see on my “bookshelf” that it has changed from “in review” to “publishing.” Maybe it will be available shortly. I hope you have a delicious Valentine’s Day. Hugs!
