Hidebound Hump Day — Spewed!

Welcome to Hidebound Hump Day, my chuckaboos!

Those prim, straightlaced, hidebound Victorians would never talk about this… but I hope to give you midweek entertainment with my mishap.  It could make a stuffed bird laugh

Here’s the spew.  It was Monday morning, and I had slept very poorly (that happens a lot these days).  One cup of Joe didn’t make much impact on my get-up-and-go.

After drowsily dressing, I treated myself to a second cup of coffee.   I crawled to the middle of my bed, where I sat doing computer work.  I got a nice (apparently large) sip of wakey juice.  Well wouldn’t you know — a mischievous, minuscule drop got ahead of the rest and went down the wrong way. The result was me spewing coffee all over myself and the bed.

I guess the coffee did the trick, if not in the intended way.  After the hurricane of coughing, I jumped up to throw the clothes in the washer. I hurried to soak up the bath of brew that had gushed onto the bed in front of me.

It wasn’t until hours later that I found the full effect of the java spout.  The 90 degree splash zone of the spew speckled everything to my left. So in addition to the bed and blanket, it was blasted onto the bookcase, the basket, the baseboards.  Coffee bean brown dried determinedly into the texture on the light yellow wall.  It was a chore to clean those tiny crevices, believe me. That was about all I managed to accomplish Monday (besides writing this blog post).

I need to get a wiggle on and finish Chapter 1 of The Delta Pearl!  Thanks to Dan Antion for letting me use as many of his photographs as I can to illustrate the serial.

If you couldn’t make it over the weekend, here is the beginning installment, the Prologue of The Delta Pearl.

I hope to see you at the dock this weekend for Chapter 1 — Dance.  Meanwhile have a wonderful Wednesday.

  1. I’m finally in my Reader catching up with your entertaining stories and the first thing I’m reading is about your unfortunate coffee accident. It’s no wonder you couldn’t get much more done that day. Now I’m proceeding on. 🙂 — Suzanne

  2. Hi Teagan, It’s Uncle Joe. I moseyed over to this post and read about the spew. What a freakin’ mess! Now I’m gonna mosey over to the next installment of The Delta Pearl. Hugs from Hooterville. It’s taken me 70 years to figure out that pun. 🙂

      1. I spend most of my time on the dark side, politics and social injustice, so i need a place like yours, where I can take a breath, stop and enjoy the flowers for a bit. David recommended your blog … I’m glad he did!

        1. He is a marvel and a treasure — I’m glad he pointed you here. You are most welcome, any time. I specialize in serial stories, and enjoy “decorating” (formatting) the posts. Some people come just for the pictures, and that’s perfectly fine.
Now I’m off to my magical steampunk riverboat. Great big hug.

    1. Welcome, Rabirius. Thanks. Pixabay is a great resource for bloggers on a budget. I wish it was easier to find the artists’ names there, to properly credit them. Often the only information I can find looks like it is for someone who has collected the images of various artists. Lots of beautiful work at your site. Hugs.

    1. Ha! Crystal was safe from the coffee splashing, Michael. 😀 She had already gone to her kitty bed for her after-breakfast nap. This nap is just before her morning nap, then her afternoon nap, etc. 🐱 In fairness, Crystal did come out to make sure I was going to stop coughing and not choke to death.
It’s good to see you, my friend. Thanks for visiting.

    1. Haha! Yes, I sure did! Oh, crochet hook is a great thing, Resa. That could get interesting. (I just thought of how similar they are to those tools used in ancient Egyptian embalming. I’ve said I’m not wired right. LOL.) Hugs on the wing!

  3. It’s bad enough that you weren’t feeling so great and then this!! I’m sure you’re laughing now but it wasn’t so funny at the time. I think we all have some variation of that story. I’m glad your computer was spared!

    1. Ya know! Joanne, something must have been protecting my computer. Coffee spewed all over to the right and to the left, and right in front of it (meaning me). I don’t think a drop got on the computer. Maybe Cornelis Drebbel helped me out. 😉 Hugs, my chuckaboo!

  4. oh, Teagan, sympathies. It happened to me too, but with diet coke when we were playing a board game. Someone made me laugh and I had just taken a drink, couldn’t hold it and spewed all over the board. lol xxx

    1. Oh no! o_O Since I’ve only just finished painting this bedroom, thank goodness the bookcase and baskets blocked most of it from the walls. LOL, I still have so many walls yet to paint, I think I would have cried if I had to repaint this one. 😀 Great big hug, my chuckaboo!

  5. This has happened to me….twice! 😡😡 It was hot tea in my case. It had the audacity to not only soak me from head to foot, but back up into my nose. I was sure I would lose a major organ before the coughing/choking/
gagging eased up. And yes, most of the kitchen was splattered with tea stains. Soooo attractive and feminine, don’cha think?!

And then as an extra bonus, while we’re feeling half dead, we get to clean the whole mess up!!

Bet you were wide awake real fast after that! 😂😂 Hope all is well now and that it’s an experience you never have to relive!

See ya Saturday on the river.

  6. I hope I am laughing _with_ you, Teagan. I have had this experience, but fortunately, I was outside at the time. Unfortunately, people were watching. But hey, you got an early start on some cleaning. I hope your mid-week is better than the start. See you on the river on Saturday.

    1. Thanks, Dan. Sorry you can commiserate. I guess the upside was that you had help in range if the strangling didn’t subside. But I get it. I had similar happen in college — in the middle of a final exam. No coffee — just a tiny, malicious drop of saliva. o_O.
Yes, it’s a good day, even if it’s trash day. Hopefully a little wall painting, and then back to work on the Delta Pearl. thanks for visiting, my chuckaboo!

  7. I can imagine the mess you had. I dropped a can of Diet Coke on the tile in my laundry room and it exploded. If I’d cut up a body with a chainsaw, I don’t think the spatter could have been as bad. We had to paint.

    1. Holy Hannah! That would have went every direction. I imagine you were still finding little drops months later, no matter how diligently you cleaned. Painting was surely the right option. Have a great rest of the week, my chuckaboo!
