Jazz Age Wednesdays — The Three Things Serial Was “Born”

Hi there, shieks and shebas. Welcome to Jazz Age Wednesdays.  Horsefeathers!  Look at that date…  June is more than half over, and I still haven’t gotten back to work on finalizing my third Roaring Twenties novel about Pip and Granny.

Maybe it’s hard to have my head in two different eras at once (meaning the Brother Love serial is set in the late 1950s).  Maybe it’s that I’ve had “issues” (I’ve blogged about some) in my new location.  Maybe it’s a lot of work for one person to move across the country, and do all the work of settling into an older home.  (At this rate it will take me two years.) 

Anyhow, I’ll stop beating my gums and get to the point.  While I try to get back to the Jazz Age and finalize A Ghost in the Kitchen, I thought it might be fun to go back to the beginning.  Here’s a link to the moment on August 3, 2013 when the 1920s setting for these stories was conceived.

Tic, tic, tic, grunt.  Tic, tic, tic, grunt.  The noise chipped away at her preoccupied mind while she absently gazed at the quiet street below.  It was Sunday, so hardly anyone was out.  A little boy in a cowboy costume came around the corner.

    1. Ha! Well, no sprawling old manse, just a cottage that needs some minor work — and no cemetery! Although “Creepy Crying Guy” (the stalker across the street) might fit in. He doubtless has atoning to do.

    1. Ha! You’re too kind, Jennie. Actually long, long ago I had a job that barely paid more than minimum wage, so of course they kept demanding more and more. One day I looked at the boss and told him, “Well get me a brass bra and call me Wonder Woman.”
      Heartfelt thanks for your encouragement — and for the reminder that I really should spend 2 minutes a day in my super hero pose! ❤

      I also enjoyed the lovely tribute to your late brother.
      I suppose I have been pushing myself too hard, because there is more than one kind of “burnout.” Yet I feel like a loser when I rest, even though I fully realize everyone has different levels of strength and endurance.
      When I left my job early this year you could say I was burned out, That burnout took the form of several ongoing physical problems, and my agoraphobia (which is an anxiety disorder) getting worse and worse until it was crippling.
      I can live cheaply where I am now, far away from DC. However, my retirement income was supposed to be more than enough to cover my mortgage. Then came taxes which made it barely enough to cover that housing expense. Then insurance and still more deductions kicked-in, and my monthly retirement is *half* what it was projected to be.
      I’m not complaining, I’m just explaining — that now I push myself because I know that I will have to go back to work. (Even though I am not really able.) And there is so much I wanted to get done.
      So I will hear your advice, and try not to burn out. 😀

    1. Why thank you kindly, Staci. I never thought of it until just now, but how often does one see a book where the first line is a sound effect. LOL. Even so, that is what started the “path” my blog has taken ever since.

  14. Hope you have some time to rest, Teagan! Its a really “big thing” moving alone straight thru the USA. The oscillating fan meets my situation too. Here since yesterday we have 35 degrees (C). But i love “hotness”. Lol Best wishes, Michael.

    1. Horsefeathers! That’s hot, Michael. I expect there was a good deal of humidity with that too. My thermometer showed 100 degrees F (38C) this morning at 9:20 AM, in the shade… Although the weather service said only 86 degrees. However, there is very little humidity here so that helps very much. Although 100 degrees is still hot, no matter how dry. But that’s the desert in the summer (and so, expected) — and that’s why I have an air conditioner! 😀 Take care in the heat. It can be dangerous. Hugs!
