A Shout-out – Copper, the Alchemist, & the Woman in Trousers

By the “Academy” I mean the group of wonderful people, writers, chefs, photographers, readers, and bloggers who come here to Teagan’s Books each week.

You see, when I introduced the previous episode, I got a little off track. Ever since, I have felt that I did not do justice to the amazing chef and blogger who provided that set of “three things” — Suzanne Debrango at “A Pug in the Kitchen.”

I know Suzanne never thought of it that way, but I can’t deal with feeling like I didn’t do my best for someone who has been so very supportive of me and my writing.  Then I thought that it would be nice to do a shout out to everyone who has sent “things” so far!

So I’d like to thank the Academy!

Episode-1:  John W. Howell John W HowellJohn gave us the kickoff episode, the first set of three things, Stilton Cheese, Mare’s Milk, Calamari.  The Cheese and calamari helped put an image of a setting into my mind. Somehow that Stilton cheese keeps coming back around in later episodes. 

Episode-2:  Kathryn aka KR Big Fish

Along with writing the second chapter of this serial, I had to come up with a name for it. Since the “things” had not had time to develop a story-line, I took the easy way out and titled it with the names of my trio of protagonists, Copper, the Alchemist, & the Woman in Trousers. I know it’s long, but I kind-of like it. For the second episode Kathryn gave us a delicious recipe and Soup Pot, Kitchen Sink, Mail-order Wine Club.

Episode-4:  Andrea Stephenson

When Andrea offered “things” for the fourth chapter, I knew I was in for a treat, because she writes so beautifully. With Artist’s Palette, Pease Pudding, Owl-Shaped Lamp, the lamp deepened the mystery.

Episode-5:  Sally Cronin

Sally Cronin

Incredibly generous in promoting other bloggers, Sally gave us things and a recipe for the fifth episode. Corset, Irish Soda Bread, Steam Engine led to a favorite inanimate “character,” the road locomotive!

Episode-6:  Mary J McCoy-Dressel

I knew “things” from my favorite Romance writer would lead to something interesting. With Soup Bone, Destiny, Ceramic Statue, Copper grew up a bit, and… well, I don’t want to give any spoilers about the statue.

Episode-7:  R.C. of New Mexico

I’m not showing a photo here, because RC is not a blogger, and I didn’t know if it would be okay…  But no one can rival the creative “things” that come to the mind of my friend RC, like Muff Pistol, Sourdough Pancakes, Airtights. Plus they were so perfect for the setting of the story.

Episode-8:  Elini Herrera

Fascinating Elini took time from her Culinary Journey to provide “things” for the eighth episode — Short Ribs, Eggplant, Red Pepper.  Her recipe was a big hit too.

Episode-9:  Suzanne Debrango

As I mentioned, the multi-talented Suzanne provided the delicious recipe and things for the ninth chapter, Pâté, Profiteroles, Olives. As you might expect, those profiteroles had many a mouth watering — and so did her blog when everyone went to visit her gorgeous dishes!

Episode-10:  Christine Robinson

Christine has the most marvelous enthusiasm. It comes through in her writing and in her delightful blog. I couldn’t wait to use her “things.” She went out of her way to make sure her things were appropriate to the Victorian Era. So stay tuned for Bicycle, Mauveine, Shepherd’s Pie. They’ll make the next episode.

Episode-11: Olga Núñez Miret

The schedule at the train station has the eleventh set of things in queue, thanks to Olga.  I don’t know how she does it… Olga has so many things on her plate, blogging, writing, translating, reviewing books… She’s phenomenal.  Stay tuned for  Old Family Bible, Carved Whale’s Tooth, Vine Leaves.

After that, there is no fuel for the steam locomotive!  So keep the train on track, and leave a comment with Three Things, which can be random things or food-related things — or both. (Just remember the story is set in the Victorian Era, so try to avoid things like television sets.)  Recipes are also welcome.

      I can’t believe a blasted sinus infection snuck up on me right after that head cold. My allergies never get this bad so early in the season…
      But, I finished the episode this afternoon & made some images. So Sunday AM I will proof, edit. & decorate.

I’m all caught up with Copper now after my unexpected break and I’ve really enjoyed the journey – magic, chimpanzees, steam locomotives, characters who may not be what they seem, not to mention mouth-watering food! You always transport me to another world and your characters come to life as if by magic, looking forward to seeing what happens next 🙂

    1. Thank you KR. It’s just a sinus infection (from allergies that took over me last weekend). I’m pretty ticked off about it, since I had just gotten over that stinkin’ head cold. (And i feel like such a crybaby!) :/
      I’ll be back tomorrow with the post. I just needed some extra time, and didn’t want to leave my wonderful readers hanging. Great big hug! ❤ 🐻

    1. Hi RC. It’s always good to see you. Thank you, but that’s just how my mind works. It seems like appreciation, respect, praise, and gratitude are in short supply in this world. But i’ve seen more of it in the blogging community than anywhere. There are some supremely generous bloggers out there. My little efforts don’t begin to compare.

    1. Welcome, Hugh! I’m delighted to have your three things. Of course the train is getting fueled at this stop, so it will be a few weeks before i make my way to them — so you’ll have to keep visiting until then. 😉
      I had to look up the “mangle”…
      “A mangle (as it is called in the United Kingdom) or wringer (as it is called in the United States) is a mechanical laundry aid consisting of two rollers in a sturdy frame, connected by cogs and, in its home version, powered by a hand crank or electrically.” Wow… ya’ll are a clean bunch here today… or maybe everyone is out of clean laundry… washtub, scrub board, mangle. Tee-hee! Greag-big-welcome hug!

      1. Oh, I’ll be visiting often. In fact, when ever you publish a new post as I get notifications via email (far better than relaying on the WordPress treader).

        My Grandmother had and used a mangle. I’m sure my mother also used one in my childhood days in the 70’s until we could afford a spin dryer.

        1. Hugh, I’m delighted to hear that! I have a memory of my Granny having an old wringer washing machine, and being warned that kids got their arms caught in the wringer! I don’t think i ever saw it in use though. A wonderful weekend to you too. Hugs.

  10. Oh Teagan how sweet, thank you for mentioning me, you know I’m your number one fan (not in a scary Kathy Bates way, LOL) three things ok, I wanted to say a scrubbing board (is that too close to the washtub?, absinthe, feather plume (for a hat), yorkshire pudding.

    1. LOL, you’re too funny (not to mention too kind). Cool beans — more things! If we have any “hard core” Steampunkers out there they will love the absinthe! Yeah… “the woman” might get upset if she has to use both a wash tub and soon after a scrubbing board — and i doubt we can get Cornelis to cooperate with it! Haha. 😀 So absinthe, feather or plume, and Yorkshire pudding. Very good something specific i can search for a recipe — unless you make one on your blog in the next month or so! 😀 Huge hugs my friend.

      1. LOL, I Cornelis is very helpful but doubt he will be scrubbing clothes with a board in the wash tub while sipping some absinthe and eating yorshire pudding. Don’t even know why absinthe came to mind other than the other worldly and fantastical hallucinations you are supposed to experience when you drink the stuff, you know the green fairy and all, I thought your lovely fantasies might include some. LOL!!

          I’ve never tried absinthe — i hadn’t heard of it until i started doing some steampunk research about a year ago. The green reminds me of Cornelis, since i often put a green glow to his “tricks” too. But it sounds worse than Jägermeister! LOL :mrgreen:

      I usually do a recap of some sort when I think the story-line is about 3/4ths of the way to the end. So why not recap the contributors too. It seemed like a good time to do it, though i don’t think the story is getting close to an end yet. Huge hugs. ❤
