Interesting post that echoes what most of us experience. While I still love meeting my friends in person, I have met people through my blog and other blogs that I would consider friends since we share similar opinions or interests. You are one of them, Teagan! Others can be fair weather friends, exactly like in ‘real’ life.

I agree, Trisha. I suppose that makes them even more real…
It varies (in my experience here in the USA), particular from one location to another. In some areas where I’ve lived it seems much more common to have “false” or superficial “friends” than in other places. So i don’t think it really has anything to do with whether you are face-to-face with a person.

to me my cyber friends are quite real- atleast enough of them! some are phony, just like real life ones…

Agreed Suzanne. I have a dear friend in England. We’ve been pen-pals since we were eleven and we keep in touch regularly. I don’t feel any less close to her despite only meeting in person one time. Hugs!

I’m with her. Many of the contacts I’ve made online have become good friends.Interests in common give you the opportunity to become friends whether you meet or not, Though most of my contacts rarely touch anything approaching real conversation, the special ones are the ones I know I’d like to meet someday.
